Auto-fire?
Apologies for the silly question, but is there a way to set up mortars and, I guess, other weapons so they auto-fire every time they can?

I keep getting obliterated because I'm trying to precisely aim stuff and can't do it fast enough. Even just getting the mouse to repeat where the previous shot was takes time.

Also. On one map I had missiles and a sniper and the sniper couldn't paint the target, but I got no feedback as to why. The door was open. The sniper could fire otherwise. Any ideas?

Anybody else notice that 'E' doesn't seem to keep the exact same angle? Maybe my fort is just wobbly. But it seems like I dial in an angle, then subsequent E presses are a little off compared to what they were when manually firing.

u do know that theres a recoil? and E shoots at the last spot your "weapon" shot (including their recoil)
Thats why u have to adjust it here and then again manually (i dont recommend spammign sniper with e)

Overall I'm becoming increasingly favorable to the idea of autofire for the low cooldown weapons. The difficulties in managing masses of Tier 1 or 2 weapons is a lot of why people tend to just rush Tier 3 weapons. Laser is just point and click, no need to aim/fire a half dozen different weapons, plus repair/rebuild/upgrade/reassemble control groups when they inevitably get picked off. So long as Tier 1 or 2 weapons require you to do a ton more micro to get the same results as point-click-destroy with a Tier 3, people are gonna go for the Tier 3.

Refire with E doesn't include recoil from the shot that set the aim. It does have additional inaccuracy compared to a manually aimed shot, however. Consider it to be 'shoot from the hip'. This is to prevent the poor defender being smashed in exactly the same spot over and over.

autofire would be fine along with automatic repairing as options as long as you can toggle them if you need to save up

Auto-Fire is easy, just press Tab-E-Tab-E, or if you have control groups, 1-E-2-E-... ad infinitum.

Its theoretically possible to line up Miniguns or Mortars so that they hit the same exact section of wall giving them better damage-penetration per attack cycle, you are better off just using Cannons, Lasers, and Missiles for that. Miniguns and Mortars are better suited for delivering withering fire across the whole of the enemy fort, ensuring they need to constantly repair everywhere and suppressing their weapons.
The problem with this is in things like sniper rifles... they don't hit even close to their target multiple times, yet anybody with a sniper rifle and a decent scope can do that.

In the competitive scene auto-fire might be bad, but im looking to have some more fun with this game. Toggling auto-fire sounds great! I hate the facebook games where all you do is click everywhere. Going through a rotation of all your aligned guns is exactly that. It adds difficulty in coordination, timing, etc. I'm looking for deeper strategy. Long games of resource management. I think this game could fill both play styles with an option...maybe prematch option...or toggles. Maybe give a competetive advantage to those who don't use auto-fire. Don't know....i'm excited for it though.

Maybe the turret guys can level up. The longer they live, the higher level, the more accurate the next shot is...for auto-fire or the E option. Might be too much?

im almost quitting the game in the first hours.. by this ♥♥♥♥ of chosing every weapon to fire and aim every weapon again and again... why the game cant tell me to click E or give me the choice to auto fire

Have you been setting up control groups? You can select up to 3 weapons of the same class at a time by holding down the shift or ctrl key, and then pressing ctrl-#. You can also click and drag from one weapon to the next to automatically group them.

To reselect a group, press the number again. If you press the number twice in rapid succession, it will move the camera back to the same position as well as selecting the group. And if you triple press, it will also move the mouse cursor to the same location.

Autofiring weapons (outside of AA) seem like fun, but in practice it became more like a tower defense game, where whoever can place more faster always wins every time. You can kind of see what it's like by watching the previous AI tournaments, and imagining yourself as a player against them.
