Picking your own commander in a team game?
This has been bothering me for quite some time, but why is commander pick always shared in all team games?

While this makes sense if you have multiple players sharing a single fort in one team, it seems very counter intuitive on maps where there are multiple forts in one team. There are option to toggle resource sharing via co-op team deathmatch, so why isn't there an option to toggle off commander sharing?

For example, myself who prefers a more economical playstyle, it bugs me to no end when someone in my team decide to pick Spook, and everyone else in the team is forced to follow that choice, or else it becomes a "commander repick loop".

In addition, this will solve the problem of untimely usage of commander active ability. I lost count how many times someone decied to waste the eagle-eye explosion rounds, when i was hoping to save it once the mini-gun upgrade finished......

Hi Aletx. We agree that having your own commander in TDM would be preferable. This is something we want to add. Commanders were a late addition to the game, and unfortunately getting individual one for each team member turned out to be more complicated than we had time to implement before launch. It can be very annoying when someone uses the ability before you're set up to exploit it properly, it's true, and we hope to get this resolved soon.

To be fair, instead we got Tons of Guns free DLC, Workshop support with gigantic maps and mods, and then to cope with those maps/mods a complete revamping of the game engine to optimize for multithreading.

I too would very much like to see this feature added. Just want to help keep attention on it as it's been such a long time that intent was confirmed.

It's not something that's likely to happen anytime soon, but, they're not saying never. I think they've taken the opportunity to make limited progress on it when enabling other features, such as the code that enabled TDM + AI. I believe parts of that could be used for individual commanders as well. But it's only one small part of the changes that would be necessary, let alone trying to balance the new interactions.

This would be a terrible feature IMO. Firebird disables the enemy's fire alarm, but does that effect every enemy? Now shockenaugh is disabling turbines, does that also affect someone? You could have 4 global effects at once, it's obviously imbalanced, but how can it be fixed? Do you only affect one of the players? Which one? What if there's an imbalanced number of players? What if your opponent dies, is your commander global ability useless now?

Also, knowing what commander your opponent is using is an important part of your strategy, fighting against up to 4 different commanders and 4 different charge meters at once would be quite hard to keep track of.

There's so many issues with this idea that it will likely never work.
