yes, the source port is intended to replace the original (wrapper) version of EE. there is no reason for anyone to use the old EE now that a proper source port is available.

The original DOS version EE is bundled with, coupled with the mouslook mod the wrapped EE had by default, would be pretty damn close, but the source port still has plenty issues and differences over the wrapped version. Some feel like stylistic differences from the original game but appear to be issues and vice versa, but my only request would be an option for changing the MIDI driver or port from within the game.
