Can't fire laser.

I have to clear something up. I have beaten the game before, its just that the update removed all my save files, so I have to do everything from scratch. Anyway, I'm trying to fire the laser, I've put the isotope in the correct spot and flipped the switch, though when I go to the laser room, no enemys have spawned and I cant fire the laser because of a "safety override". This did not happen the first time I played SS1. Please help!

It's been years, but I seem to remember you need the safety override code from either D'Arcy's office on the science level, or the library on the same level. That'll disable the safety interlocks so that you can fire the laser with the shield raised.

Yeah, it did happen. You could fire the laser without a shield raised, destroying 'major cities on earth' and ending your game in the process - maybe that's why you think you could fire it the first time around.

But if the shield is raised you need the safety override code and enter it in the safety override access room to fire the laser. You can find the code, as the previous poster said, in the library - solve the wire puzzle there ( no need to access the cyberspace node in the library to get any
code ) and the code pops up on one screen. Remember it.

The safety override access is, if memory serves correctly, on the Reactor level after the room where the lights go dark, doors open and an ambush takes place. You get to a section of the reactor where you can see the nuclear rods of the reactor core to your left and one strong execbot guarding a gravity lift to your right. The lift should take you to the numberpad to punch the code in.

After that it's getting back to the elevator, travelling to level 2, getting back to the laser control, survive the ambush there ( 'did you not think I knew where you were heading' from shodan or something along that lines ) and fire the laser.
