Retina scanner part on lvl 3 a sequence break/shortcut?

I went back to lvl 3 and did the retina scan locked room after having done the relay part earlier but was wondering, can doing the retina scan door part early be used for earlier level 3 exploration (maintenance parts)?

You can't enter that area anyway as long as the maintenance tunnels are closed. In short, that area is optional.

You sure about that? The rooms (office and the space with the severed head) are closer to the center than the maintenance areas.
Was just wondering if getting into the office let you open the maintenance areas earlier.

nope. the maintenance areas open for one specific reason only.
