8 Player?
I have tried to get 8 players to work a couple of different ways and nothing seems to work. For instance plugging all USB's in the computer directly, no dice. Using one USB hub and the rest plugged into the PC, no dice. Two USB hubs, no dice. At one point I was able to get 6 to work but it was acting weird and cslowed it down. I have gotten other games to work like Knight Squad and Gang beast with no problem in almost any configuration with 8 controllers. (Although gang beast just updated and before that last update I could not get it to work)

Any one have any success?

What controllers are you using? Last time I tried only xbox (and phones) worked.

Hi Mayor McCheese. That's odd. Yes it'd be useful to know what controllers you're using. And in case it's relevant, 8 simultaneous hardware controllers are only supported when XInput mode is turned off. Check the pause menu to verify that, but by default it will be turned off.

Ooh, steam controllers are supported via xinput now! I can almost test things solo now.

Sorry took me a bit to get back to this. Seems any comobinations of controllers seems to affect the game.....I have used 6 controllers plugged into a hub and plugged into seperate ports (Xbox One controllers) also tried 4 xbox one and 4 wireless xbox 360 controllers via the wireless adapter.....still no dice. At most i have gotten 5 players to work. I have tried it with xinput off. :/

So at the moment, if you want to use XboxOne controllers, Steam controllers or other controllers that require Xinput you'll have to turn on Xinput mode and you won't be able to use more than 4 controllers. When not in Xinput mode the game uses DirectInput which allows up to 8 controllers, but XboxOne controllers and Steam controllers only work with Xinput. So the only way to have more than 4 controllers working is to have a lot of Xbox360 controllers or other controllers that aren't Xinput only.

This situation is far from what we want it to be, but at the moment we can't do much about it. Xinput only supports up to 4 controllers and having both Xinput and DirectInput working is not supported by the controller library we now use (Rewired).

We're hoping to find a good solution for this.

You mention using 8 controllers with Gang Beasts and Knight Squad. Did you also use XboxOne controllers then? If so we can maybe ask them how they managed to get that working.

Cheers

Thanks for all the discussion on this! We have a monthly get together and another 8 player game would be rad.

Both gang beasts and knight squad currently work with my mix of controllers (360 and Xboxone). Knight squad has worked with that set up for a long time and gang beasts recently updated in DEC. to get it all working with 8 players. I do not have to set up anything additionally, it's just plug and play.

Thanks for the heads up on only having one vs the other. I will have to try that. I currently do not have 8 of one controller or the other so a mix is ideal but I can probably scrounge together 8 of one type at some point.

Thanks again!

I eventually was able to try 8 players with one set of controllers......xbox ones.....but I still had some trouble. Oddly I think it had to do with original xbox ones and the new xbox one S controllers. I will have to try again later and I know you updated today so maybe there is a fix in there for that. I have another game night on Monday so I can try it out then.

Thanks for all your help on it!

Hey, Tuesday's update does not contain changes to the controller system, so from our side nothing has changed there.

I'm curious how many controllers of each type you used. As far as we know you can't add more than four Xinput controllers, like the XboxOne's. If you manage to get more than four working I would really love to hear what you did.

Thanks for keeping us updated.
