what is the point of taking photos ?
When you first get the camera you need to take some photos to let you get past a door. I got the photos went past the door, but don't recall giving the photos to anyone.

Now I'm in a new chapter - what is the point of taking photos ?

By taking photos of different enemies you research them and eventually unlock the ability to do more damage to them.

Ah, thanks. So I should start taking photos of as much as I can, I guess.

Yeah, you also can unlock certain tonics that you may want if you want to complete the game to 100. If you are playing easy-medium, then you don't have to take photos past the camera mission. But if you're trying to complete the game's trophies then you will have to continue taking photos as some trophies wont unlock without it.

Ah, so I checked out the achievements and you get them for completely researching the various baddies. Question - is there any way to view progress on this ? Do you need certain kind of pictures ? How do you know what type of picture is required ? Or is it just a case of take as many snaps as you can and hope for the best !!

Sometimes I take a picture and get a 'C' rating, sometimes an 'A'. Sometimes little messages pop up after a photo - is that what Obi-Wan is on about by eventually unlocking the ability to do more damage to them. How is this ability registered in the game ? Is it by being able to by plasmids or some other mechanism ?

I think I read you get to play this game in 'free mode' once the story is complete. Maybe that's the time to go after these research achievements.

Sorry for the '20 questions'. I am enjoying this game, but it seems there are a lot of aspects to it that are not very apparent at all.

A small message pops up when you've maxed out an enemy type, there's also one when you take multiple shots of the same specific enemy. If you've got the film take as many shots as you can.

You get bonus points for things like multiple enemies and action shots (pictures of them attacking) among other things I probably didn't notice.

I've just been retracing some old steps and photographing dead bodies. Managed to get a message pop up on one type. It gave me a plasmid after the message (though it didn't trigger an achievement). I think the A/B/C I mentioned is the progress tracker, rather than a rating on photo quality !!

It's not often I take a picture of them still alive, on account of trying to stay alive myself !! But I have had a couple of bonus shots. Once when being attacked and once a Little Sister Big Daddy combo.

Still learning. Getting into this game more and more !!
