So, I was trying to get the key with telekinesis when I accidentally seem to have just tossed it across the room. Should I just do over the entire section? Is there worthwhile stuff in the office (diaries, power ups, etc)?

No, I can't. I think it dropped somewhere behind the counter and is thus shielded from my attempts to get it again.
My most recent save is from the start of the entire area, so I'm not excited about doing everything over if there's nothing of importance in the office.

Wow that's funny because I did that yesterday. You might try going to the next level and then going back. Another option may be killing yourself and hopefully the key will reset back on the hook. Let me know if anything works.

There's some mildly good loot in there, but it's only special ammo types which are abundant and purchaseable from vending machines throughout the game. Even on Survivor you wouldn't take a huge hit by just forgetting it exists. On quicker runs I don't even go in there.

I just dropped the key on my first attempt (first time using telekinesis) And there's no way to get it once you drop it, I guess. Last save was half an hour ago. I'm not replaying that. This series may not be for me. ;)

I did that a few days ago. Fumbled the telekenisis and it flew away. Turned around and found the key behind me.

I even did not observed it hanging on the wall when playing yestertday, but was able to take it from first attempt then pressing E in air, in the same way can loot in non accessible areas.
One advice, do more frequent fast saves, it will save you many times, i prefer to do them before hacking but in this case didn't save, was lucky, else would be in same situation.
P.s. i love the telekinesis ability, i imagine to have such powers for real would be great.

same thing happened to me, i thought i lost it and started looking up how else to get in. Then i gave up and turned around to find the key waiting for me
