Stronghold Crusader HD

Stronghold Crusader HD

Game wont start at all
I've played this game before on my computer. My problem is no matter what I do it won't launch, it just makes the screen black for a split second, then an error message pops up saying 'Stronghold Crusader has stopped working', then shuts off.

I have been to several sites following several solutions that have not worked or even made the problem better.

I have tried: Setting affinity to single core, compatibility modes for every OS windows provides, running as admin, running at lower resolution, verifying game files, reinstalling, using different versions (retail disc, GoG, Steam); I have tried HD patches and such, tried forcing it to start in windowed mode thinking maybe full screen was making it mess up or something. All my drivers are up to date. I have all redists and all that installed.

This problem happens when I try to launch SHC+E or just SHCE.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 645 Processor
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti
8gb ddr3 1866 ram
DX11

Not sure what else would apply when needing to know my computer specs.

I don't know what else to say, if anyone could help me out, please do. Thanks.

Update: Ugh.. Turns out after ALL the hours of hassle.. all I had to do was manually make my resolution lower, 1600x1000ish, and then just use nvidia control panel to make it fit my screen and the game finally loaded and worked fine.

Hopefully this will help someone else in the future.

how did you manually make your resolution lower
Relinquished Sep 8, 2013 @ 1:34pm
I changed resolution of my display by right clicking desktop and clicking -screen resolution- I made it below 1600x1000 and it didn't fit my display. So I used Nvidia control panel to warp it to fit my display, then the game finally started up. Once in game I could change the resolution to the highest it could do and it hasn't messed up since.

Won't run for me either, no error message just does not load :(

The game stores resolution settings in the crusader.cfg file in \Documents\Stronghold Crusader. Deleting this file will force the game to re-detect your settings.

Tried running the exe files in the steamapp folder & it gives me game failed to start or some thing the error number is 0xc0000022

I just bought the HD version so I'm not sure why it's not running, guess its not so compatable with win 8.1

I'm not sure how to help you guys. All I had to do, as stated, was change Window's resolution, then I used Nvidia control panel to warp it to fit my monitor, which I think changed the resolution again so I don't know. It has worked fine ever since I did that.

SOLVED:

1. Download this: http://bitpatch.com/ddwrapper.html
2. Extract the contents of that zip into the game folder (in Steam, go to view game files or whatever).
3. Edit aqrit.cfg and change ForceDirectDrawEmulation to 1.
4. ????
5. Profit

I got the same error message, but lowering the resolution doesn't help. Any other suggestions?

Nevermind. I seemed to have figured it out. I have Windows 8.1. I ran it in compatibility mode for Windows 8.0 and it now seems to work.
