Need help game crashing on start up

I`m not getting any error message the game just gos to a black screen and crashes after 5-10 seconds

mh, that's weird - did you "checked for broken files"? Maybe reinstalling the game or installing the software (when you start the game) could help.

If none of these were helping: go to Stronghold folder in steam, right click and properties in Stronghold.exe, compatibility tab, turn on enable run mode in windows 98/ Windows Me, join the game and change to your native resolution!

Else, I am clueless ...

I found a guy who posted this - but do the other attempts first; they need less effort:

-Download WinRar
-Find program "dxwnd"
-Open dxwnd,Go Edit then go to Add
-Find Stronghold /my way/Local Disk D:Steam/steamapps/common/Stronghold Crusader Extreme/ Then just press on Stronghold Crusader or Stronghold Crusader Extreme 1 time.
-When you do that do that same time on patch and launch on "dxdiag" and Name type just Stronghold.
-And on left down corner you have windows intal position size X50 , Y50 , W800 | H600
you can make 1204 768 or what you want....
-Then press OK and launch game on dxdiag for me worked now fine on steam

I found the problem 12 files failed to validate in game cache

Ok, that sounds great - some people also deleted the crusader.cfg file in the Steam folder, which also helped for a few

I can't seem to be able to find the crusader.cfg file... It's in the game folder in steamapps right?

Oh no sorry - The game stores resolution settings in the crusader.cfg file in \Documents\Stronghold Crusader. Deleting this file will force the game to re-detect your settings.

Aw man...the folder doesn't even exist...When I start the game, it says

"The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Error code: 0x80070422"

OK, I think that this error had something to do with the "Windows Update" or the "Windows Firewall" - but I found a video, that might help you (atleast it did for other people and seems credible)
