Game does not start
Hi guys, I am not sure if someone faced this kind of problem. I double-click on game name in Library and the game does not start at all. The only thing is that on right side of the game name there appears "running" for about 2 seconds and "syncing" for maybe one second. And nothing happens after that. Game.exe is not in windows processes. I set *.exe file in to compatibility with Win7, I have even reinstalled Steam, updated GeFOrce drivers to latest from January 2017. I am using this:

The game runs separately from Steam?
igoubej Feb 11, 2017 @ 10:22am
nah, cant even run it outside the Steam. Tried everything, update graphics drivers, DirectX, reinstalled Steam and nothing.

Same problem affects only old games form my library. I did not install and try all of them but same problem is on Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament. None of the new games troubles me like this.

Try to put the compatibility mode to WinXP

Is there a redist folder in the game's directory? If there is, make sure you install everything within that folder. Following that, you might have to enable some extra compatibility settings. There's a tick box (seperate from "Compatibility mode, just FYI) to enable support for things like DirectDraw in Windows, but my memory is failing me and it's nearly impossible to find using relevant terms in Google.

Also - try this. https://steamcommunity.com/app/40970/discussions/0/846963165489225749/ Let me know if that helps. Reinstalling also shouldn't be a big deal if you haven't tried it already, just make sure you delete those pesky appdata folders and configuration files before installing it again.

Thanks a lot for your effort but I have already requested refund. One whole evening lost by trying to fix it was enough for my nerves. I stopped downloading cracked games years ago but cases like this makes to do exceptions.

But trying to fix something that's broken is fun! There's a certain sense of satisfaction that comes from solving the problem, and by solving it, you can state the solution here to save a few other people from a wasted evening.

Disclaimer: I like troubleshooting. Most people don't.

Yeah, I agree. Most of the times I am able to find solution by myself but this is extremely unsuccessfull case :) I totally went out of ideas. I still have it in Library. They dont process my refund ticket yet probably. I have tried your ideas from previous comment. Result is the same. Identical behaviour :( And if you mean turn on DirectPlay in Windows Features setting, i cannot do that because I dont even have that Legacy Components folder and DirectPlay checkbox in settings.

Hm. Well, I don't think they'll agree to a refund, considering your play time. All they can do is say no though, so best of luck.

Try to search folder where you installed this game and search stronghold.exe and click to run the game because icon on pulpit sometimes doesn't work. I had this problem with game warlords battlecry 3 but now it works. Just try maybe this trick help you.

Adzeus, that was one of the first things I did :) I started executing the file right from installation folder. Did not work either.
