No one in the game necessarily their "complete identity." Other than pictures of themselves, first names, and general area (name of school/city), there's no evidence that more personal information was shared online from what we can tell in the game's story.
And that's less information than most people have on their public Facebook profile, and having a public Facebook profile is extremely common. Even if you don't do it, it's still a very realistic and common thing.
I don't see how doing something most people with internet access do is "cringe" and "lol"
Sometimes you take chances on people and they disrespect your trust. It sucks when it happens but it doesn't mean that every time it does that person should be blamed for it. It all depends on the circumstance. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Most of the time people have good intentions. The fact there are those out there who enjoy taking advantage of those good intentions doesn't make the victims bad people or stupid or justify others chastising them for it.
