[Help]Controller not working in the game

Hello everyone ! I know it's been a topic subject posted too many times over the years but after long researches I just don't know what to do anymore !

I use a X-box one controller (gears of war edition if that helps) connected with a wireless dongle (the cable plug broke a few years ago) and it works fine in big picture mode, the inputs are taken into account and produce the intended effect ! (up to that point we're all good !)

BUT when I start SMB (or SMB forever fot that matter) The game doesn't accept any input from the controller and honestly playing SMB with a keyboard is not pleasant !

I've tried :
-Updating the firmware
-Changing settings through steam (big picture or regular)
-Using a separated software to remap the inputs from the controller
-updating the driver
-repairing the game
-reinstalling the game completely
- Using other controllers including official wired ones from microsoft and unofficial ones (none are working)

It still won't work and honestly it is starting to piss me off quite seriously as I love SMB because it is fun, it helps keeping me reactive and somehow I find it relaxing (yeah I know it's weird ^^")

Hello ! It's very unfortunate that you didn't fix your problem. I may have a solution for you.

Use Joy2Key (it's free and easy to use) and map your keyboard keys on your controller.
It doesn't fix your problem but you should be able to play the game at least.

Already tried that with input mapper and sadly not working :/

Can you play with keyboard at least ? Because if you can play on keyboard, there is no reason that using an input mapper doesn't work.

Thanks for the link I'll try to find some help there !

And I simply tried to remap the "A" button on "Enter" just to see if I can accept in the game menu as a starting check so to speak, well.... that didn't work and I just can't seem to figure it out which is quite frustrating as you can imagine.

I'm also having this problem where the mapping of the xbox controller doesn't match what's expected, the B and A buttons are switched around.

Don't have the option sadly ! I do have for the Headset but not the controller

do you have steam input on? do you have the controller connected BEFORE opening the game?

I think so (I believe it's on by default) ans Yes I always connect my controller before launching any game.

I have the same problem and the solution proposed doesn't work for me. Strange, I just installed the game after many time, but in the past the controller was working perfectly. Using a x360 wired controller that's working fine with other games. I guess some SMB update messed up things.

I fixed the problem like this: right click on the game in library, select properties, select controller, be sure to have selected "use default settings"; then select "use general controller settings" and select "xbox configurator". Went back, restarted the game and the controller was working .
Beware, my Steam interface is in italian, so the name of the mentioned settings could be slightly different, but you get the idea of what to do.
