Tricks to leveling up Flonn in the beginning. As in do healers gain exp healing or only by killing?
IF only by killing thats frustrating becuse her only move is to well heal and wack with weak ass stick.

Only by killing. I suggest to teach her some elemental spells using the master/student system, ie you create a mage with Flonne, you set them next to each other in battle (use the Practice Map for example), and you make Flonne cast the spell you wanna learn till it reaches lvl 1.

Healing does not give EXP until Disgaea 2 and later titles. Makes Clerics difficult to level up without Transmigration from something with decent offense.

I'd recommend giving Flonne a decent Bow or Gun and pass the first Promotion Exam in the Dark Assembly by picking the zombies off one at a time. It should give you enough Mana for her to make Red, Blue, and Green Mages/Skulls to learn the basic Fire, Ice, and Wind spells from.

The good thing about using a staff on her is that while healing or buffing does not give exp, it still increases weapon mastery for staff, which increases the stats gained from the weapon as well as the range and targeting area of all spells. Flonne is basically really good with a staff, even more so if you teach her star magic.

Note though that her starting skill Power of Love does not count as a staff skill, so it won't increase weapon mastery.

The first game had a lot of serious problems in terms of leveling up healers. I'd give Flonne a bow until you get rank 3 and unlock the archer, and then use the mana she earned to give her a mage pupil and switch her to using a staff and try to have her level up an attack spell to at least rank 1. Flonne ended up overleveling after I did that since her int stat is actually fairly high and only having a 100% int aptitude barely matters in this game. If you keep giving her magic pupils and teaching her spells, Flonne will end up being quite a bit better than the other story characters.

Bows really are terrible in this game though, so you might have to go out of your way to give her the last hit until she levels it up to rank 3.

You could also just abuse team attacks to level up. That's like 95% of the way I level healers who don't have access to attack spells in this game.

As of the second game, healing gives some experience, and in later games you can even get evility's that increase the exp gain from healing. But overall this is one of the big reasons why the first game lags behind the rest of the series in terms of gameplay.
