Naming Generics - Fixed Names or Random?

So, with less than two weeks to go until the Disgaea PC launch, I thought I'd ask a pretty simple question. When creating generic characters, do you like to have set names for your characters, or do you hit random until you find something you like?

Personally, I mostly go for random names, although if a unit does something particularly awesome I will carry over that name for future games/runs. Some of those names are:

Red Skull - Uber.
Uber was the name of my starter Red Skull from my first run of Disgaea 2. He was the sole survivor of the final boss of that run and had to chip off the last 10% of the bosses health by himself.

Thief - Expired
My thief from Disgaea 3. Stole all the things and was an allround monster with her guns and magic.

Male Warrior - Wassup
Axed many many questions. Landed the final blow against Baal in what turned into a protracted brawl. Good times.

So that's me, how about you?

I have a set of names I generally use for each class, though it varies a bit because of the different class sets in each game.

Sometimes I see what the random gods give me other times I use a pre-decided name.

depends on the mood, sometimes random, sometimes I name em myself. I keep a small assortment of troops though since I don't want to maintain too many..

First Disgaea game don't have a random name button as I can remeber. So I usualy tipe something generic ;P

i did japanese female names on female chars lol but on chars using wrong weapons like mage using an axe (which is cool) i called her AxeMage

I tend to name mine after gods/mythological creatures.

Personal names. For my Majin, on Disgaea HoD, I used the name "Cecil", my Samurai was " Sakura", my Fighter ( female ) "Laïka", my healer "Angela", my Thief "Yuri". How I remember ? I use the same names xD well, excepted for my Majin, who reappeared on Disgaea 5 with the Dark Knight. I don't create generic Mage, 'cause Flonne was my Heal/Mage, along with my Majin and Laharl ( I find Magic not that effective on Disgaea 1, it really begin to kick in with Disgaea 2, in my opinion ). In D2, my mage was Yukimaru and Flonne, D3, Raspberyl and Mao ( + Flonne ), D4, Altina and Flonne, D5, DLC characters ( Metallia ftw, Flonne )

I usually went with randomized names for Disgaea characters with a few exceptions. For example, on Disgaea 5 I used the name "Martin" (after the main character for the Wizarding series). Of course, when I switched him to Witch, I ended up renaming him to Martina XD

I go with arbitrary random names in games i play. Names like Lesbian Carwash, Jesus Juice, Mr. Clean, etc which are all the more fitting in a game like Disgaea though i might have to come up with shorter ones for D1.

like grace,ace,zack,mark ect ect ect

I can't be arsed to think of names for my characters unless they are special projects. So random it is. They should put more chuckle-worthy random names in the name database. From vague innuendos and funny nicknames to some of the names that you might find in something like classic worms and perhaps some good parody names. Maybe someone will mod it in and my next brawler will be named Beat Punchbeef.

Named after my closest and dearest friends, based on their personalities. Without giving their names, my otaku friend is a Ninja, my closest friend and pseudo-sister is a Ronin (she's more the type to wreck sh t than cast spells), my tech-minded friends are a Warrior (bit of a temper on him) and Gunner, and my oldest friend a Thief (despite his penchant for being a brute, he's got a sneaky rogue-like side to him).
