About the hyperdrive question, i had to verify it because I never thought about getting another one. It seems it's only possible to get multiple on the original PS2 by stealing it off an item god 2 on the 100th floor of another hyperdrive. I'm not entirely sure if it's possible in the other versions.
I'm not sure if you can get a second Hyperdrive if you dive into the first one, but you definitely can't get another one by doing a second straight 1-100 dive in a new Rank 40 item. It may be possible to get a second one in a New Game+ world and doing another 1-100 dive there, but I haven't tried that out yet.
And the others covered the R40 stuff.
Might as well pick something useful, though. By the time you can defeat the IG2 you'll more than qualify for the other R40 gear.
Though I concede that the Apocalypse could arguably be considered "useful". Even if it's not a sword.
To my understanding, this is the rule for getting a Hyperdrive on the PS2 version, not for getting higher-ranked items from Item Gods - I don't believe there are any penalties for doing it in the other versions (given that there you lose your shot at the Hyperdrive as soon as you exit the original item in the first place).
When you are aiming for higher-ranked items, the one catch is if you Gency out on level 100. When you return, the Item God will no longer have the next item.
