Start here for a beginner?
Never played the game series, thinking of giving it a go. Is there an generally agreed on starting game? Start with this one, or is it not beginner friendly?

Apologies if this has already been addressed in another thread, I looked but didn't see it.

Thanks in advance!

I would start with this one as the QoL improvements over the series is significant. If you start at 3 or 4 then jump back to 1 it will not be as fun for a first playthrough.

It always come down to personal opinion. None of the stories require you to play ealier games on the series to understand them as they are slef contained, except for Disgaea D2 that is a direct sequel of this one, but is not even on PC. So you can start with any of them and get what is going on. If you want to experience the stories then is a good idea to start from here, only because there are references you might not get if you never played the games in order.

Now, this one is the DS version, and doesn't has all the QoL features added to newer disgaeas. It has some of them and you can even get characters from Disgaea 2. Is slower and you can tell the older design philosophy, but it is still a very solid entry point to the series as it already has all that made the series known.

Up to you. As you don't know the differences added between DIsgaea 1 to 6 you will not miss them if you play this one fist.

Is it? This one lacks the Prinny commentary and geo panel + walk animation speed up settings from the DS version.
Just don't forget to save or you will puke anger bc you forgot to. Speaking from experience.

The store page says it "Includes all content from Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness" (the PSP version), though in truth it's missing the multiplayer.

It did eventually get some of the DS stuff patched in (such as a playable Zetta), although unfortunately this didn't include the Prinny commentary. Also it added another crash bug. Better to run NCP on an older game version, really.

Thanks for the replies, team. I'll probably get this one then. I reckon I'll like the game quite a bit, and as suggested, it's probably harder to go back to the earlier games after starting a later one.
Heckuva a good deal now too.
