When they say rank 40, I believe that's the item list ranking. So you'll need a very high level legendary weapon or armor. Check in the castle with the male healer, he has the stats. I don't think Mr. Gency will work for this.
Always remember to gency out and save at floor 99 just in case things go wrong.
No, hyperdrive can't be stolen, not even from an item god.
Also, DO NOT gency out if you are going for the hyperdrive. You have to do the 100 levels in a row. What you should do instead is make sure that you are able to kill the item god 2 (it is a lot harder than any other boss you might have encountered), carry lots of consumables and scouts to change the panels if necessary.
I keep thinking of the PS2 edition, this one is more like the PSP. That is correct. There is an older thread that explains this too. The first reply should be helpful.

btw, what levels do you recommend I take Larharl and Etna up to before going on the journey? And is there way to stop the game from crashing during doppelganger and tera star spells?
