Should I finish the first/first 2 Disgaea's before delving into the fifth one?
I actually wanted the fifth one to be the first disgaea game I play, but I couldn't find the physical version of it anywhere for the Switch until yesterday and I bought it instantly as I was afraid I won't get to find it again for a while.
I actually am thinking about playing Disgaea on both my PC and my Switch, but I'm unsure if that would be a great idea.Right now I'm close to the fifth chapter in the first game and I was thinking about rushing through it before moving to the fifth one,but that way I won't really get to appreciate and enjoy the game as much as I do now.
Well now,my question is pretty straightforward as seen in the title.Should I finish the first/first 2 before playing the fifth or would it be fine if I play both the old ones and the fifth one in "turns".I know that the games are pretty light on story so there is not much to lose, especially given the fact that just the first 2 have something to do with each other, but I still felt like asking this. Thanks in advance!

All the disgaea games aren't connected, you don't need to play them in a specific order.
They're basically the same game but with different story, different characters and different mechanics (as expected from the first title and the later titles, content is much larger).

Disgaea PC is a great game, a game that brought a LOT of its fans and I assume many people bought the game for the same reason as me; for nostalgia. The Laharl, Etna and Flonne Trio is a great cast of characters and the game is quite simple in terms of its features.

I think you hyped yourself up too fast for the fifth Disgaea, I think playing the first then second etc would be a great order to play it in. Think about it, you're playing the series from its beginning, and you see the origin of it all, and then as you advance to the next game, you notice new features and entice you to play more and be more drawn into the game and the series. Then you'll get to 5 and be amazed at how much it's changed since the first. And you'll appreciate them all.

But if you went straight to 5, you'll have loads of fun. But should you decide to play 1 and 2, you'll be setting yourself up for disappointment and you'll think "Oh... this game doesn't have ________ or ____" etc.

TL:DR: All the games are standalone, but if you want to enjoy the full experience, best start from numero uno and work yourself uppo

Thanks for the quick reply!I guess that I will play the first 2 then move on to the fifth,as I don't have any way to play the third and fourth.I can play the third and fourth when they decide to port them over to PC I suppose.

I don't mind outdated graphics,as I have played plenty of old(er) games, disgaea not being an exception to this as I have lots of fun in it.

You could play Disgaea 5 in isolation and enjoy it... but.. and a bit but...

You'll appreciate appearences from earlier characters and inside jokes a lot more by playing them in order. I'd go into detail but I don't want to ruin anything. I hope you enjoy... I'm having trouble myself not rushing through one to play the other, haha.
