What carries over to Etna Mode?
I want what carries to a new game plus in Disgaea, I know levels carry, but does equips does too, and story characters only join you again when they are supposed to join, right? And their disciples only join when their respective masters join again right? I will lose my Samurai but that’s fine with me. And I will transfer Judgement to Etna before last mission. Also learnable moves are active again? I will teach Flonne all the spells but the last healing one before finishing the game. And how about bills passed? Like Prinny Land and Cave of Ordeal? You receive the same prinnies as before? How do I choose Etna mode in new game plus? I keep all the itens or just equipped ones? What are all the data on Etna mode? They ask you what mode you want to play on the New Game+? Any question I forgot? I need to know everything about Etna mode before doing anything about it. Thanks a lot for helping me. What characters can I use there?:Vio:

Yes, you keep all your items, equipped or otherwise. You may not be able to access items equipped to characters who are unavailable to you, but you'll regain that access when you regain those characters (even if you have to go back to normal mode to do it).

Yes, though if you have to fight them before this happens, they won't regain the equipment / levels / skills you gave them until they're actually a part of your team again.

No. You don't lose access to pupils at all.

Bills which unlock store / portal features must be re-passed. Bills which relate to specific units remain passed until they transmigrate.

Yes, unless you dismissed them. Either way you won't be given new prinnies.

Assuming you meet the requirements, you'll be offered a choice between the two modes each time you start a new cycle.

The difficulty is somewhat higher, meaning that you can level faster - Etna mode's CoO3 is the best stage for gaining XP in the entire game.

You won't have access to most story characters, most notably Laharl. If you just whipped through normal mode while mostly training him, you may not be ready for Etna mode.

It has two different endings.

make sure laharl isnt you main char, other than that youre good to go.

also just got all achievments today, you keep everything but some things you only get back when you chose main game mode after you beat etna mode on that file

This was my issue when I got to Etna mode. I didn't think ahead and most of my party were charcters that are Laharl mode only. I had to pretty much train a new team without most of the good low level grinding spots (CoO3 is all good and dandy, but only if you can come anywhere near to beating it).

Be careful with Pleinair, at least for me, she disappeared in the PC version (the DS you expect her to stay), I had her with 3 Testament emblems farmed from Prinny Land for the purpose of finishing Etna mode faster. Original plan: Etna + Pleinair (3 Testaments each) and wreck all the things. I have tried looking elsewhere, but I am assuming all her character and all her equips are gone, unless I can confirm after finishing Etna mode when I go back in to normal new game plus as third play through. Stay on the safe side and unequip all items from Story characters before starting new game plus seems to be the consesus on off-steam discussion forums...

Happy reincarnating dood...
====================
Update on Pleinair (after completing Etna mode and starting new game plus in Laharl mode): so happy she didn't "eat" all the equipment, for some reason she is not available in Etna mode, only once you are back at Laharl mode does she automatically join again with all previous items. Will test on other special characters...

I'll ask this here instead of making a new thread, will created characters that are Laharal's pupils be available in Etna mode? For instance, my main cleric, Rose, is Laharal's pupil. Rose also has a skull pupil (he's at star level now, working on getting him to galaxy). Would they be available in Etna mode, or should I re-make them into Etna pupils?

@Gatsumon: Yes, all created characters will persist as @Bomb Bloke already mentioned, "pupils" are permanent until you dismiss them regardless of if the mentor is present or not. All story unlockable characters will not be until you hit the chapter that lets them join.

Updated: found another bug, after finishing Etna mode and going back to Laharl mode new game plus, Flonnel loses all her equips and they are replaced by the default Pleinair gun + imperial seal. If you plan to do any new game plus, I think its safe to assuming nothing is safe on your characters other than their levels and skills... disappointing. New game plus looks like it still works but better backup and/or unequip everything first...

Heard that Flonne eats her equipment, but I can verify that Etna and Pleinair come through with theirs intact, as does Laharl. Will find out if Flonne really does eat her stuff soon; haven't added her back to my roster yet, as I'm too deep in postgame stuff to play story.

I know I'm necroing this thread, but thought it best to keep my related question in this thread: Is the mentor / pupil relationship lost and restored if you from Laharl mode -> Etna mode -> Laharl mode? IE, In Gatsumon's example, will Rose, a pupil of Laharl lose pupil status in Etna mode, but gain it again when returning to Laharl mode, or is that relationship permanently broken from then on?

To answer my own question: I'm now in Etna mode, and while Laharl is not present, his pupils are, and in their Status, under Mentor, it says 'Laharl'.
