What did they change in level design.
Sometimes I actually enjoy some of the bad design choices retro games made depending on just how bad they are, it adds to that nostalgic feeling. I am trying to decide if I want to experience this game with the modified levels or the original levels. I heard they moved some keys? Is that all? How many keys were moved. I assume moving keys could have a drastic impact on how the levels play out and maybe that is a good thing but I am curious!

The modified levels are bare minimum, nothing drastic has been changed short of a relocated level 1 key and some trimming on level 5.

If you truly want the unedited levels you can always try this mod:

Some graphical polish such as fixed texture glitching, a few re-worked areas, changes (I am unsure of what) to make extended view/fog distance look/work nicer. I wish I had screens to show you but honestly it would take some time to show off every change and I think the big ones will be obvious if you play em back to back.

As Zdann pointed out, the original levels are here to play and they're worth a go. They aren't bad at all, though the catacombs can throw you in for a loop because the remake one is honestly quite a bit more polished

Is that all? What kind of trimming? I wish there were videos on the levels to see the changes. Seems like they always go for changes to make people get less frustrated and lost which is the appeal for me.

from what little Ive noticed, in level 5 theres a small corridor you loop around and grab like 5 life forces. That was removed.

I noticed a fair bit of things that were off when I ran through this version, I played the N64 one A LOT as a kid. The most immediately noticeable one to me is the moved key in the first level because you used to also get an automatic shotgun right there.

It wasn't "right there," it was hidden atop a normal-looking cliff that was actually climbable. The remastered version has exactly the same type of secret in the new clearing.

Community is obsessed with pointing out tiny changes they made to the levels that you wouldn't notice unless you have one copy of the game up alongside the other. Can you play the original at 5760 x 1080 at 120hz on any graphics card you want without it crashing all the time? No? Stop obsessing over this because you discourage Nightdive from doing the godly work that they do. Nobody else took a chance on this old game like they did. Turok 3 drops tomorrow, so get your N64 copy ready and play the two at the same time so you can tell us all how we are not allowed to enjoy the new one.
