How to survive Hard mode?
I have beaten Normal mode without much of a sweat as enemies drop ammunition and even health upon death. However, it does not seem to be the case on Hard. While I can definitely appreciate the fact that I am no longer swimming in ammo, I am getting very frustrated with enemy respawning.

The first two levels were not so bad, but Level 3 is where things really got tense: tough enemies like the Pur-Lin and the Cyborg Sergeants are becoming quite common, but there never seems to be enough shotgun shells to deal with them all and I have yet to get my hands on higher-tier weapons such as the Grenade Launcher and the Pulse Rifle. Too often, I find myself with nothing but the knife - which is useless - and dying does not seem to replenish my ammo, which means I have to run past multiple enemies to get back where I was at or to backtrack across the level to look for ammo pickups I might have missed, wasting health in the process.

What am I doing wrong here?

Well theres your problem, your wasting too much time on an area to let enemies respawn.

If it helps, knife attacks from behind deal much more damage and regular arrows can insta kill if you release them when theres a glint on the tip of the arrow.

The original PC version respawned enemies twice as fast even on Normal difficulty, so consider yourself lucky.

Are you saying I should not bother looking for secrets and power-ups, then?

No, im saying that on hard mode you should already know where most of the secrets are.

Basically, don't touch hard mode till you've beaten it at least once?

You can do Hard on your first time, you just have to go along very carefully. If your gonna hang around on one area long enough for enemies to start respawning then its best you pull your knife and bow (usually its just basic enemies with melee weapons who respawn)

The lack of enemie drops is not that terrible, except for elite soldiers not leaving any energy cells behind, which is the biggest source for that kind of ammo. Better to save the plasma rifle and the shockwave cannon for tougher enemies, green blooded ones and robots.

Hardcore just seems to be Hard mode but with faster enemies and the original respawn times.

I would had killed for hardcore mode to have more enemies on screen

I've considered modifying this, because the difference between normal and hard is so big. You go from swimming in energy ammo to having very little. As a result, I feel like all I ever use is the shockwave weapon.

I've thought about either making them drop a small rather than large cell on easy and normal, to even the difficulties out a bit, or making them drop a small or even a new "micro" or "pocket" cell on hard+, but I'm affraid to wreck the balance. Maybe if I reduced the number of grenades per box as a tradeoff, since I never feel like I'm running low on grenades despite leveraging them pretty heavily.

What do you guys think?

Do it. When I first played Turok on Hard mode, I actually felt like going back and wiping out 4 hours of progress because I just couldn't take having no Pulse Rifle ammo to use on the stronger dinosaurs.

Also, do you know if there's a way to fix the forward movement so it has the same amount of acceleration as strafing? That's the one thing that's ALWAYS pissed me off about Turok 1, the sluggish forward movement and instantaneous strafing.

Yeah, they're just a few properties in defs/actors/player.txt. Why don't you just run diagonally, though?

Woah, cool. Now people like vcatzkiller have zero reason to complain about the controls. As for me, it's a matter of inconsistency. It's just a thing that's always bothered me and made platforming a bit more tricky than it should be.

Hey, since you have workshop items published already, would you mind telling me how to submit items? I'm working on a sound restoration mod.
Edit: never mind, I found it in the editor.

I've beaten the the first 2 level in hard mode, it was tough but fair, but the fact that enemies where not dropping ammo was an really annoying thing in the third level where you have just 1 way to beat it, running inside the level and remember all the power up location.
Is still doable but what a spike, i wish the ammo drop was disable only on Hardcore because that's not a thing i'm expecting to give that much dedication to the game on the 3rd difficulty.
