Hi davidkorban!

Please ensure that your system is able to run the game (at least meeting the minimum requirements of the game, all drivers are up-to-date and verify your files:

Troubleshooting via Steam
  • Select Vikings - Wolves of Midgard from your Steam library
  • Right-click on your game
  • Select 'Properties'
  • Select 'Check Integrity of Game Cache' from the 'Local Files' tab (Please Note that this might take several minutes)

System Requirements for Vikings - Wolves of Midgard:
MINIMUM:
  • OS: Windows 7/8/10, 64bit versions
  • Processor: Intel Compatible 2.1 GHz Dual Core
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 2GB or compatible
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 10 GB available space
RECOMMENDED:
  • OS: Windows 7/8/10, 64bit versions
  • Processor: Intel Core i7 or better
  • Memory: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or better
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 10 GB available space

When using Windows 8/10
First of all we recommend running the game as admin user (even though you are only having one administrator Windows User account running on your machine).
- To do so, right-click on the game .exe (by default: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Vikings - Wolves of Midgard) and/or shortcut and select the checkbox “Run as administrator”.
- Click on "OK" to apply the changes and start the game with double click on the game’s .exe.

If this is still not working, we recommend to start the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode.
To set the compatibility mode, do the following:
  • Right-click game .exe and select properties (by default: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Vikings - Wolves of Midgard)
  • Click the Compatibility tab and tick the checkbox labelled "Run this program in compatibility mode
  • Now you can select a Compatibility Mode and select e.g. “Windows 7”
  • Additionally, if you have not made the step in advance, tick the box below labelled "Run this program as administrator"
  • Click on "OK" to apply the changes and start the game with double click on the game’s .exe.

Integrated Intel HD Graphics and a dedicated graphic cards
Disclaimer:
Please be aware that Vikings - Wolves of Midgard does not support integrated graphic chips of any kind.

When using a laptop with an integrated graphic chip, it might be the case that by default this chip will be used, instead of the dedicated graphic cards, which may impact the performance of a game.
You can easily change this by doing the following:
- First of all make sure you are running the latest graphic card drivers. So update the graphic card driver from the link below.
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=en-us
- When done, change the settings as described below:
1. Open your Nvidia Control Panel (right-click on desktop, select Nvidia Control Panel)
2. Select "Manage 3D settings"
3. Select "Global Settings". You will find the option "Preferred graphics processor". Please select "High-performance NVIDIA processor" and save the settings.
4. You will have to reboot your system for the changes to take effect.

davidkorban: I tested, restart more, original Steam and gave original Gog and nothing :(
Version latest from Steam... The game doesn't load. It stays still on the loading screen. Tried backwards compatibility mod on W7, W8 and nothing (start as administrator). Game will not start on Windows 11 22h2. So it is only possible to go to the menu, start new game...loading and nothing, just music playing.

W11 is new PC (AMD 7950x3D and RTX 4090 and 64GB DDR5). Ok.
So I try with test this game with old PC Windows 10 x64, intel core i5 750 4Ghz, RTX 1060 6GB DDR3 16GB and game not loading. I get GOG, test again, the game has the same problem.

Windows Key / Start Menu > type "environment variables", click on the one that says Edit environment variables for your account.
Click "New...", variable name is OPENSSL_ia32cap, value is ~0x20000000.

I think i will play this game next. Also, in the future, if you solve a issue, always write down the answer as many people in the future may have same issue and need your help. I always try to do this on past games i have played. I even wrote a guide with someone for the original saints row 4 to work on modern pc's.

I also co-wrote this fix guide with another steam player:

Game is not working for me. Going to try your fix.

UPDATED: Works on windows 11. I hope this fix does not mess up my other games. Will it? I am using your fix now and it seems to load the game, so thank you. Gave you a award Silvershine. I think you should write a guide with how to do this to help others in the future. Since i did not discover it, i cannot say where you got it or found how to do it. It would be best for you to do it. If you do not want to, i can write a small guide for it. There very easy to write guides on steam, but usually there is a word limit on how long the guides can be.
