Looking for an 'Outfits Warehouse'.
So I'm kinda in the early-midgame of ES right now...I have a Hai Shield Beetle and a decent amount of cash, and have just unlocked the Remnant Albatross which I'll probably be purchasing pretty soon.

However between swapping out equipment for different ship builds and farming jumpdrives and other Korath tech, I'm finding myself running out of outfitting space. I have a few ships parked at the starter world (earlygame Human freighters mostly) which I've been storing outfits on, but even those are beginning to fill up. And I'm not a huge fan of big fleets with hundreds of support craft, even if they would have cargo holds for days.

So, I'm wondering: Which ship out there (at my current game level or thereabouts) has the most outfitting space available? Is there a ship that I could buy, strip of pretty much every system and outfit and just leave parked as a warehouse back at base, for me to store all the outfits that I am not currently using but do not want to sell?

If it comes to it I'll go through the wiki and check each craft manually, however I figured I'd ask here first in case someone could save me the trouble by speaking from their experience, and additionally to reduce the risk of potential story spoilers. Any advice anyone can give would be appreciated, however I will say that whatever ship I get would likely have to be bought, as I haven't yet tried capturing anything and am trying not to anger any of the major races if at all I'm able.

Thanks for your attention :)

Soon: You can just press U to uninstall and store outfits in the outfitter of a planet. No more putting them on ship!

But in the meantime, if you really want maximum space per ship, the Bactrian, Behemoth, or any non-civilian capital ships would likely get you the most. However, you'd be paying a very large markup to combine ship icons, compared to just buying Star Barges for non-weapon or engine outfits. Like, over 10x the credits.

You can control-click your ship to deselect it in the outfitter, then shift-click your first "storage" ship to select every ship from the last to the one you clicked on. This will then show you any outfits stored on those ships, like it was one big ship. No need to spend the money for larger ships.

But yeah, once 0.9.13 is out, which should be soon-ish, store outfits on planet will be a lot easier.

Ooh, that future functionality sounds very nice, thanks for letting me know about that one^^ Definitely looking forward to that!

However if I may, I'm a little confused about this part of your post here:

That's some nice functionality too, and I didn't know about that. Thanks for informing me, I'll have to give it a try next time I'm on the game. But I'm afraid I don't fully see how it would help with my current situation of having no free outfit slots...surely your outfit space would still be limited by the amount each ship can hold, just all added together? Unless that strategy allows you to unequip outfits and place them in cargo rather than in outfit space, so they take up the hold of your ship instead of system sections?

You would still need to sell the outfits on those ships, then install the outfits you want to store, it would just save you a lot of money (and thus let you have more space overall) compared to buying a ship that has "the most outfitting space available".

You best bet is probably grabbing a Hai Geocoris and converting all its cargo space into outfit space using outfits expansions. That'll get you 1,152 tons of outfit space.

Ah right, I see what you're saying. Yeah that does sound reasonable, I'll have to look into it in game. Thanks again for the suggestion^^

And thanks for this one too^^ So you'd suggest a Geo over some of the big Human freighters or other races?

If all you're using them for is parking them and storing outfits on them then yes, a Geocoris is better than any human ship. The only thing better than a Geocoris for outfit storage would be a Deep River that has had its cargo converted to outfit space, but you only get 66 more outfit space for a total of 1218 at the cost of like 7 million credits, so you're better off just buying the cheaper Geocoris.

You can just steal a bunch of ships from the Hai battleground instead of buying a ship. It's easy to farm enough to sell for creds to last through the rest of the game within hours of farming.

Makes a lot of sense yeah. Ty for the analysis :D

While this may be true, as I said at the end of my post above I'm trying to avoid angering any of the powers in the galaxy in this playthrough if I can help it. And I started out at peace with the Hai, and am currently in the section of the Wanderer story where the Unfettered are convinced into a truce as well, meaning they are peaceful too. So to try and capture either of their ships would be a major cut in rep from one side or the other. But thanks for the suggestion^^

I tend to use marauder leviathans farmed from missions. They're easy enough to spawn, have limited backup, and have not only outfit space but also hardpoints to store useful weapons on.

No one called this out yet so just so you know, that's untrue. You're uninstalling into your fleet's cargo hold, not onto a planetside storage.

I wasn't super clear, but the "Soon" in that post means "in 0.9.13", where it will do that. Right now though, it does just bring it to your cargo hold, yeah.

This is the main reason why I bit the bullet and go nightly.

My ship list had "exploded" with the 'official' version due to the necessity of having a LOT of parked ships just for storage.

I just bought like 10 Deep Rivers, and since I'm also using them for farming Korath (I put up a guide recently if y'all want to know my strategy), they make for pretty convenient outfit storage, just in the cargo holds, since they're already following me around.

If you're wanting somewhere to store outfits without having a bunch of freighters following you around, something like a Geocoris (or Deep River if you have the cash) would be ideal. Take it to whatever planet you want, sell everything (including engines and hyperdrive), and convert all the cargo holds to outfit space.

I have used various unused Leviathan/Falcon and some (spoiler) Raiders for warehouse, many of them are parked in Polaris for obvious reason. Also I had bought many Star Barges for petty components as well, in Polaris.

there is a warehouse mod. Search "storage facility" on reddit.com and you'll find it.
