I bought the game in the last sale, but haven't played it yet, so I don't have your answer.
However I had the same issue in Risen (1). I used sword and bow, and trained with a guy in Harbour Town for sword training. Anyway, I got to about level 2 sword, and then I couldn't get him to train me sword anymore. He would teach me crossbow only in weapons.
I think it might have been that I joined the Order/Inquisition, and maybe they don't specailise in sword. However my journal still showed him at a trainer for it. I was gutted, coz I didn't want to start from level one with staff, and have wasted learning points.
I am keen to know then if you find an answer. Also by replying to you will have bumped your question back up, so good luck to us both.
So to all Risen 2 fans. As Voodoo Pirat get Swordmaster before you play through Maracai. :)
