Same here. I'm getting really sick with games purchased on Steam and not working. Sleeping Dogs crashes, Bulletstorm doesn't work and now this. Hey guys don't you have quality control or something. It's one bugy game after another. I'm getting scared to buy any game.
Now this is off my chest here is what I've done to make this one work:
Go to Risen 2 folder. In search write exe. You get 4 files. When I tried Risen2.exe it asked me to reinstall PhysX. I clicked on PhysX_SystemSoftare.exe and marked repair. After that the game works for me.

Another who can't get this to start.Locks up my system (Win 7 64, AMD 5870 with 13.4 driver). When I run cache validation, results 1 file failed and will be reaquired. Then I see abrief update. Still fail, same cache validation error after reboot. Unless anyone has another suggestion, going to uninstall/reinstall.

I've tried all of these solutions but none of them work for me. :( I've uninstalled and re-installed about 5 times today. Deleted my PhysX and installed with the one in the game folder. Still nothing. I have 34 minutes of "Not Responding" Game time because I haven't even seen the title screen.

Sorry I misstyped It's PhysX_SystemSoftware.exe On my PC is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Risen 2\redist\PhysX . WHen you doubleclick you should get NVIDIA PhysX setup screen. Also before doing this repair I restarted PC so it may help also.

I installed the newest version of PhysX downloaded from nVidia site:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.12.1031-driver.html
Then I turned off PC(it was late evening, I have to sleep also :-)). I turned on the computer this morning and the game runs. You can restart your PC instead.

I'm having a problem installing PhysX, its saying I have a newer version already installed so it aborts the install and doesn't complete the installation of the game :/

Just disabled McAfee real time scanning and it worked :)

I was successfull running it with "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" checked under Compatibility,along with Run as Admin.
