Risen 2 though very frequent crashing on load screens.
I'm not the most techy minded when it comes to this stuff but I think the crashing issue is related to the game's low access to memory, it needs more than it can access when running the game on higher settings.
The fix I found thanks to a post in the Risen 1 forums, was to run this software patch on it.
https://ntcore.com/?page_id=371
It's easy enough to use, just download it and run the program, go to where Risen 2 is installed on your PC then select Risen2.exe (the application that launches the game)
It will patch the game and allow Risen 2 to access 4GB of virtual memory instead of the meager 2GB of memory that it is normally limited to due to it being a 32bit game application designed for 32 bit Windows systems.
Most of us are running 64 bit versions of Windows these days which has a higher virtual memory cap, and this patch allows the game to take advantage of that.
Since patching my Risen 2 with this software I have had no more random crashes in the game.
I don't know for a guarantee that it's a total "fix" for the problem or if it simply greatly enhances the amount of time you can play for before the game does crash but either way it has made the game significantly more reliable to play for me and allowed me to make a lot of progress in my playthrough ^^
Suffice to say this 4GB patch software is a godsend since it's usable on literally any old 32bit games that are limited to 2GB virtual memory access.
So if you have any older games that have frequent random crashes likes this, this patching software will likely help with that.
