Crash on launch, another [solution]
Hey, today I tried some of the recommended solutions in this forum and nothing worked out for me.
Re-Installing Physx
Re-Downloading game
Changing location to C:\
Used Mod-Launcher

This is what worked for me:
Go to: .\Steam\steamapps\common\Risen 2\data\ini\
Open "ConfigDefault.xml" with texteditor of your choice (e.g. Notepad)
Search for (Shortcut: CTRL + F): "refreshrate"
In my ConfigDefault.xml this value was "0"
I changed it to "60" and saved it.

Started the game and finally saw the main menu :-)

//Edit2: Thanks To czdosi for this Alienware laptop/ Realtek Sound fix:

I returned to the game after ages and got the same issue. I have Alienware 17R4 laptop with Nvidia 1060. I was trying above fixes and also other which I found on internet but nothing helped... After several hours of trying I got it.
I remembered that some games (e.g. Xplane 11) have no sound issue when Alienware Sound Center is running. It is an "enhancing" software producing various sound effects packed with audio driver (Realtek ALC3266 in my case). I closed the damn app and game finally started. :-)
So my point is, that also audio might be the issue and if you tried above and it not helped, check for some "enhancing" app packed to your sound driver. Because it might prevent the game accessing to audio. I believe that it is not only case of Alienware Sound Center -- there are probably plenty of similar apps branded by other manufactures.
And note, I still need to use above "refreshrate" fix -- I set 60, because laptop panel refresh rate is 60 Hz. And I also downloaded latest Legacy PhysX.

//Edit4:
Thanks to Agent Smith for that possible solution:

Hello there,

I tried installing AntiWarp and the Unoffical Patch 0.5, both simultaneously and alone, both with ModStarter and without. However, the game simply does not launch: I get a black screen for a while and then it exits. I am using the Steam version with all DLCs. If I remove the mods, then the game starts, so it's not a Windows-related problem, I assume. (Also, I tried all kinds of PhysX, DirectX, VCRedist reinstall shenanigans, but to no success. The game DOES work without mods)

Could someone give me a hint as to why this happens?

Also, are there any other recommended mods (which do not alter the gameplay, just bugfixers / balancers)? Also, I noticed some review of the game says 'overpowered weapons' ; is this true? Are there any mods which make them weaker or something?

Thanks a lot.

[SOLUTION] Strangely, after restarting my PC (I've tried a lot of things including reinstalling the game, repairing or uninstalling&repairing PhysX, installing DirectX or VC Redistributable (the latter three can be found in the 'redist' folder where Risen is installed by Steam), it .. worked. It might be related to the fact that these reinstallations did not take effect until I restarted, though it's weird that the game was working before I did it. I'm now running these mods for which I used the Mod Installer: AntiWarp, Unofficial Patch, LoD Distance Mod Final and Guns and Glory Balancing 1.0.

EDIT: I also posted this on WorldOfPlayers / WorldOfRisen : https://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/threads/1554385-Cannot-launch-game-after-installing-AntiWarp-and-or-Unofficial-Patch?p=26375532

//Edit5:
Try Win7 compatibility mode. Thanks to zzzzapped

Setting admin mode on Risen2.exe did not help me.
Copying the PhysXLoader.dll did not help me.
What helped me was setting the good old "Windows 7 compatibility mode" on Risen2.exe.

//Edit 6:
Try resetting your BIOS/ UEFI, if you had a cryptomining parameter set. Thanks to sikanderaslam

what worked for me was setting the bios to default values and it worked like a charm...
btw "windows 7 compatability" and "run as administrator" were already enabled....
thanks anyway pyro

Cheers

Just changed privacy settings. Anyway, enjoy Risen 2. The whole triology is enjoyable. Risen 3 works without any problems, so far.

tbh I expected to play something similar to risen 1, cus thats similar to gothic and i'm a huge fan of those but the combat system just feels flat and exploitable... I mean once you start hitting you can keep bashing right click to hit with 4 or 5 combos in a row and that kinda sucks imo. Well I only played a few hours but idk if its getting better later.

Yeah, there's a kind of break between Risen 1 and 2. I think Risen 2 is getting easier the more you play, same for Risen 3. I would recommend "Kingdom Come Deliverance" to you. It has a challenging combat system and a nice medieval story, but no kind of magic.
