intrested because of the pirate theme but....
I've only played one game from these guys, parrana bytes, is it there thing to have a crap ton of quests you can't do even if its in the starting area, enemy levels being random with many high level enemies thrown about even in the starting zone?

cause i only played Elex cause again i like dthe premise but the fact that it just pissed me off with not explaining things well and that i couldn't do any quest or take on more the the equevelent of a rat just dropped my intrest, is this game the same?

enemy levels aren't random in pb games, every enemy has a set level, as they should. if a tough enemy's there, it means you're not supposed to go there yet, but you can still try to cheese the fight.

that said, risen 2 has rolling, muskets and companions, so not much is gonna stop you after you get them.

well an example i can give from Elex is that you got this high level troll sitting in the middle of the starting area and in the areas around him you have bandits who will destroy you if you try to take them on, your not given much direction in how to upgrade yourself or how much benifit 1 point in something will give you.

with my phrasing of "randomly" i understand that all the enemies are fixed levels but it felt like someone took a box of enemies, grabbed a hand full that had enemies from low to high levels and threw them onto the map.

on top of that you have quests in the starting town that send you to places near by, but when you go to them your hit in the face with very high level enemies with erther auto rifles or plasma guns (i will assume you know the premise of Elex) so you can't complete even the starting quests on top of having to be be aware of the other high level creatures in that zone.

thats why i asked if risen 2 was the same, that was a nighmare to even try to navigate

only played the risen trilogy so far, but they all follow the same design philosophy. basically, you should avoid combat at first as much as you can. enemies won't go anywhere, they don't respawn all the time either (only a few after major story events here and there), and you can get plenty of items and xp just by questing and exploring wherever you don't get killed instantly.

and just because you get a quest early, doesn't mean you can complete it immediately either. in risen 2, you can wander into a cave early on and get eaten by a big-ass spider, but there are plenty of other places to explore instead. I'd suggest trying the demo.

alright ill do that.......and maybe give Elex a shot again with this in mind, i will admit i come from standered games and the soulsborne series so my understnading on what should be considered difficult is probably different

believe me, once you get into the pb mindset, you'll be hooked. when I first tried the risen 1-2 demos (and all 3 gothics) I couldn't run away any faster. the atmosphere and stuff still stayed with me though, went back to them a while later a second time, then bought all the games and spent 6 months slowly playing through the risen trilogy. fantastic experience. been meaning to play the gothics since then but I find it hard to jump into rpgs with all the good-to-know stuff, and I can't run elex yet, so I keep reliving risen memories in my head :)

I'm fine with playing the originals, they seem different enough anyway, not just higher quality textures.

so when you talked about the PB mindset and avoiding combat for the most part in the begining, what do you do if thats ment to be avoided?

go where you can, look for stuff to use or sell, talk to people, do quests that don't involve combat, but also try to fight various enemies to see if they're beatable at that point with a bit of effort or definitely only later.
