A horrific 'HD Remake' that ruin the flow, pacing and overall feel of the Super Famicom classic that birthed an entire genre, Torneko's Mystery Dungeon 'Classic HD' should be a prime example of what NOT to do when attempting to revive a retro title for the modern era.

YES - The game has a noticeable delay in the text descriptions that makes combat take longer and feel worse, ruining the pacing of the original.

YES - The game has a noticeable delay when displaying the 'missed attack' sound effect due to the aforementioned text box issues, which can lead confusion during combat with multiple enemies.

YES - The game takes control away from you while you have to wait for these boxes to disappear.

YES - This delay happens when you level up.

YES - The 'hold button' function for moving diagonally has a delay, putting the player at risk of moving out of position while they wait almost a full second for green arrows to fade in.

If you've never played Torneko before this is NOT the place to start, as there are a litany of better Mystery Dungeon titles on other Consoles (and Steam itself) that not only feel and play better - but are actually cost efficient in comparison.

Torneko's Mystery Dungeon on modern platforms has been my white whale for the longest time and now that it's finally here I'm sad to say that this is not the port I was hoping for. It's buggy and there's a noticeable audio buffering that occurs. It's sluggish but more than that the game likes to stop you in your tracks because you have to wait for lines to print in the info log before taking any action. Even spamming A after killing a single enemy takes a few seconds before you can get back to exploring which is kind of annoying. The original SFC version is not nearly this slow.
There are also small QoL irks that I wish were present like separating item types such as equipment into separate menus or not spending an identify scroll when used on an unidentified item that apparently "Torneko already knows" is base quality.

Young Yangus Mystery Dungeon soon, hopefully.

Played for a few minutes and, as someone very familiar with the original and the Mystery Dungeon series as a whole, was disgusted.

The game has a huge buffer after every single printed line in the text window, slowing the game down to a crawl. Mouse and keyboard controls are really shaky, to the point some functions are not acting correctly for me (can't turn character with mouse function listed in control settings). The visuals are a strict downgrade from the SNES version with a really awful filter applied to the sprites -- I say this as someone who likes HD2D games. Even minor things cause strange errors, like getting "(null)" on the top of your screen when you change font options.

I was worried when I noticed SpikeChunsoft wasn't listed as the developer and didn't see a credits option from the main menu, and unfortunately the fear was well-founded. This is an abysmal port/remaster. Please do not buy this unless you absolutely refuse to play Super Famicom games.
