Has This Game Been Abandoned?
I'm working on saving some money aside for this title, hoping to work it into my YouTube channel if possible, but it looks like the devs may have abandonded it. Can anyone confirm if there's been evidence of the devs working on it? Delayed update to Alpha 9 for over a year, and May 4th I see a dev apologizing and saying soon yet again...but that's the only information I could find.

Not very confident about spending money on this title. Thanks in advance for any information.

As one of the devs (I think I may be the one that apologized in that earlier post), I can absolutely state that we are still working on it every day. Alpha 8 actually just came out in March (this year, not last), and Alpha 9 is still in progress, albeit slower than desired.

We have not abandoned! As Nargozic said - we have been extremely hard at work. We have secured funding for the rest of our development and are working diligently towards a release. The next update should be as huge step forward in fun factor for the game as well. Stay with us! Have faith!

OP Zomb Lee, the main issue with this game is we never hear from the Devs. This is the first post from the Dev's we've had in weeks.

Don't waste your money.

Thanks everyone! It is a bit encouraging to see two members of the development staff quickly respond, but at the same time, a lot of the consumer base of the game seems angry. Kaijudo's response sort of affirms this.

It'll take me awhile to save up (not that $14.99 is hugely expensive I just have very little to dedicate to my gaming budget) so I'll keep a close watch on development while I save, since there's some mixed signals here.

Thanks again everyone for responding, and I look forward to seeing the game progress. It's what I've been looking for in a sci-fi sandbox title for awhile now and there's nothing close to it, so I'd love to see it succeed.

kaijudo is also an incredibly angry and impatient troll so take what he says with a grain of salt. most of us are patient and happy to wait for a very small indie team to slog through the grind of making a sandbox game. Maybe they could post more maybe not. They are rebuilding the ai right now and I'm sure thats an incredibly time consuming and difficult job.

Oh man, I have to come clean, you got man hahaha... I bought the Star Command app and Star Command Galaxies, just so I could troll them.

Well, on the one hand, these devs aren't exactly known for meeting their deadlines (the original mobile game has been in limbo for nearly a year), but on the other hand, this is a wicked awesome game, just like the original mobile game, just don't get your heart set on it being done anywhere near when it's supposed to be. To clarify, I hold no malice towards the devs, it ain't an easy job I know, it's just a bit annoying to see so little communication about the new game after all that went down with the original. I'd completely reccomend buying the original though, the features already present are well worth the price tag, but for this title, I'd wait a while and see how things go.

If you'd like a small taste of what you'd be in for, you could always grab the free beta for the original game, it's hosted by the devs here: Star Command Beta [starcommandgame.com]

Thanks guys for chiming in and for the link! I might be picking up the game sometime today, depending. I'll definitely give that beta a try.

I'd say wait till Alpha 9 is out.

I think the lack of communication complaint is overblown. They kept us up to date on why Alpha 9 was delayed and that it would take some time. I think too many people are just impaitient children who want things NOW!!!.

My self, as an understanding adult, know that these things do not always go as planned and there can be delays. There is really no point in updating people daily/weekly if nothing has changed. We got an update now and it was a little over a month later. That is not a very long time in the grand scheme of things.

With all that said I would still reccommend people dont buy the game until Alpha 9 or later depending if you want a more complete game or not.

Yeah promising us Alpha 9 right up until the last minute, then disappearing for 3 days, is fine with the people that supported your game. Then they showed us a drawing of their new AI idea, fantastic, they really explained things to us. You as an adult should know that they must have known alpha 9 wasn't coming the day they said it was, so why lie to use and tell us "It's coming in a few hours" WHAT?!.... you need to take your head out of your adult ass, and look at the bigger picture.

Many times people dont know for sure if a project will be delayed until the very last minute. It happens all the time in the real world. Things come up that are unexpected. I am guessing you dont have experience in programming or engineering.

I am looking at the bigger picture, that is why I dont get all bent out of shape over a delay. I am looking toward the release of the game. They have given us an update on their plans.

I also dont remember them telling us it was coming out in a few hours. I dont even remember them giving an exact date. They said they anticipated a mid-april release. That didnt mean it would be released.

EDIT: Also it seem like you dont even read what they say. They didnt show us a drawing of their NEW AI, they showed us a drawing of their OLD AI. There were many paragraphs of TEXT that explained what was going on.

We're talking about game development, not some event or something that was planed and delayed because of something else. When you're making a game (coding) you already know how far along you are in development. If something is broken or not working, you already know that.

Here is a link to the thread I'm talking about. http://steamcommunity.com/app/402160/discussions/1/412449508292329194/

I did read all of that. That was all dated in March. Alpha 9 was suppose to come out in April, and we got shafted. Whether it's new AI or old, it was a drawing. Here is what they had to say about it
Bottom line is even they apologized for the delay, so things look good now. They have all the funds they needed and they are full steam ahead now. So hopefully we're going to get better communication from them, which is what most of us asked for.

Yes we are talking about game development. It is still programming, and many times things can seem fine and then you find a really bad bug, or create a new bad bug and then things can spiral and take a lot longer to fix then anticipated. This can happen at the last minute.

It wasnt supposed to come out in April. They never gave a release date. They had hoped to get it out in mid-april. That is not the same as saying it was going to for sure come out in mid-april. When a definitive date is not given I basically assume that it will take longer, other wise they would know for sure what date to post.

They had given info near the end of March and then they responded again at the start of May. That is only a little over ONE month. You seem to expect updates daily or weekly. Which I find pointless if there is nothing new that needs to be said.

My point is that the lack of communcation is overblown. There has been plenty of communication. You just have unreasonable expectations and a lack of patience.

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of replies to my thread here, had some things IRL jump in the way. I feel it's worth mentioning that despite my fears, I went ahead and purchased the game on early access. I have been fooled out of my money and shafted by many early access titles before, so what's one more?

However, as some have pointed out, despite the devs missing deadlines, they are at least seeming to make an effort to be in touch with the customers/community a little bit more in these past few days. Hopefully that is a positive sign and it works out.

Having said that, I again want to thank everyone that took the time to post their thoughts and opinions on the game, and mention that, while I have encountered a few bugs already, the game is still quite fun, and I really do hope they finish it.
