Buying a new ship
I would expect that all my furniture, weapons, and gear would come with me to my new ship in crates, instead of disappearing with the old ship - it's not even included in the old ship sale refund, although that would be an acceptable improvement.

We also see this as a problem and have been discussing a few different possibilities to fix this. Each is better than the current option of just letting everything disappear, but each comes with drawbacks as well. Here's what we have on a couple ideas:

1) Box everything up and put it in a cargo bay on your new ship. This is nice as you have everything and can set it up as you see fit, but needing to unpack everything every time you buy a new ship makes ship purchasing somewhat of a chore. Particularly when it comes to the time element in the game and how the clock affects the end of the game.

2) Sell all of your items and give you that amount in credit. This gives you proper money to get new things for your ship, but also adds in the chore element of needing to replace everything when you get a new ship. It also somewhat forces you to have certain stores up by the time you replace your ship, or you wind up without things like Shield Generators and the like. Plus, it just doesn't feel good if you find a rare antorian cannon and lose it just because you wanted to upgrade your ship.

Thoughts? I personally lean more towards #1 or perhaps a UI option where you can decide what to keep/sell when you buy a new ship, but we're very much open to feedback on this issue.

I personally prefer #1 as well, because you can still sell/buy what you'd like, and not have to remember what to re-buy. If ship item placement could be done entirely within a Pause, that would solve the issue of time.

Method 1 is definitely the best choice.

For one, how often will you actually be upgrading ships? I mean, it's not like you're buying a new one every few sectors or anything. And it's nice to have all your stuff back to put exactly where you want.

The other thing is, as you pointed out, with option 2, you're stucking flying around the galaxy trying to buy back everything you just lost. Which would essentially leave you crippled for a while, which is a very bad move.

I do think that you should be able to do most things while the game is Paused. Things like moving equipment around a ship should simply be an automatic thing, you click and it's moved. Other things, like crew orders and such would simply be applied, and the crew would react as soon as you unpause.

I would go with number 1 and make it like your going to buy or sell items. That same UI will pop up but instead of selling, this is where you pick what gets boxed up and placed in storage. I would also add a butten to box all just to save time.

Would be nice to also have the same UI for storage showing us what we have boxed up and can unbox it AND place it from there. This eliminates scattered boxs around your ship that you have to click on just to find what you are looking for. Because all of the names and icons will be in the UI.

Chiming in here because I think it is important.

I would go with option 3: Give us an editor view were we can place everything freely without time passing on, or any boxes in the way you might have to move around. This way you are not punishing players who want to have a nice looking ship. Just say the shipyard workers are doing the job before they hand over the ship. For impatient players give an auto place function (just predefined a couple places on every ship for generators, batteries, weapons etc. and place the best items from the old ship there). Anything that is leftover can then be manually placed or ends up as box in the cargo hold.

While we are at it, how about adding weapons, armor and equipment lockers to save floor space and make things look more neatly?
