I'm not a hardcore Batman fan, but I absolutely love Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight (2008) and Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker (I even made a Joker parody back in 2014 where Batman calls me on Skype, although the video is private now). I'm also a veteran of Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009), which I first played back in my school days with my classmates (who were huge Batman and Hitman fans).

Arkham Asylum (2009) set a completely new standard for the gaming industry, especially with its seamless Freeflow combat system. After its success, many other franchises—such as Assassin's Creed, Marvel's Spider-Man, and others—adopted similar fluid combat mechanics and design ideas. Back then, NVIDIA PhysX was one of the coolest technologies in PC gaming. I still remember how not every graphics card could handle it properly in games like this. Even back then, I absolutely loved the technology, and I was pleasantly surprised to see it implemented in Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009). The paper debris, cloth physics, smoke, particles, and destructible environmental effects looked incredible at the time and made the world feel much more alive. It was one of those features that truly felt "next-gen." Arkham Asylum is a truly legendary game. It received outstanding reviews from both critics and players, and in my opinion, it fully deserved every bit of its Game of the Year recognition.

Well... this is the final Batman game from Rocksteady, and it brings together everything the previous games did well. It features the Batmobile, significantly improves the cinematic presentation with outstanding animations, lighting, reflections, and visual effects, and honestly, it still looks incredibly modern even in 2026. Arkham Knight runs on a heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 3. Rocksteady Studios pushed the technology of this engine far beyond its original capabilities, extensively reworking and improving it to create the open-world Gotham City. If someone asked me to recommend just one Batman game, this would be my answer without hesitation Arkham Knight (2015) because it still looks absolutely incredible today. That said, Arkham Asylum (2009) still has a unique charm of its own. Today, I'd recommend playing both if you want to experience where this legendary series began.

It still looks like a game that could have been released yesterday. The visuals are just as stunning and juicy as those in Need for Speed (2015). The gameplay offers the most variety, there are tons of mechanics, side activities, and overall it's the most complete Arkham experience. It has the fastest and most satisfying gliding mechanics in the entire series. Pure joy.

A true Game of the Year classic that changed the gaming industry. Its Freeflow combat system inspired countless games that followed. I'd compare its influence to what The Matrix did for action movies—it introduced ideas that many others would later build upon.

Another deserved Game of the Year winner. It expands everything from Asylum with a much larger open-world environment, plenty of side content, and... over 400 Riddler trophies (good luck with those 😅). I only wish there had been more Catwoman gameplay, since her playable sections are surprisingly limited (only 4 playable story chapters).

This prequel was developed by a different studio, and you can feel that almost immediately. Batman comes across as surprisingly sadistic, both in the way he talks to people and in the way he treats them. That was my first impression. Personally, I'd rank it last. I wasn't a fan of how Batman and Joker were portrayed, both visually and in terms of their personalities. If graphics are your main concern, don't assume this game looks better than the previous entries, simply because it came out later than Arkham City. In my opinion, City and even Asylum still hold up just as well—and in some scenes, they actually look better. One of the best "git gud" games I've played. Surprised it also doesn't have the "overwhelmingly positive" status of the previous 2.

Better graphics than the past 2 games.

Animations are very well done and combat flows like water once you master it.

Finding all the collectables was both a chore and rewarding at the same time as you need the XP to get upgrades for Batman. In terms of grind I could only give a sigh of relief as it isn't close to as grindy as the previous game to 100%.

The atmosphere is dark and fits perfectly with a Batman game.

Sounds are great.
Music is great and fits with the game and atmosphere.
