Supreme Commander 2

Supreme Commander 2

Game won't launch with second screen enabled
So I got this game specifically because the dual-monitor support sounded intriguing.

Turns out when I set up the second display in the settings, the game won't launch anymore - similar to the common issue where the resolution isn't set correctly and you have to change the preference file.
The thing is, I definetely set the resolutions and refresh rates correctly, and the game therefore should launch with dual monitor support - but doesn't.

My settings:
Primary display 1920x1080@60hz
Secondary Display 1280x1024@60hz

WIn 8.1 64bit with a GeForce 560TI, both monitors work fine in regular desktop mode (extended displays)

Any ideas what could help?

Put /safe in the game launch options run the game and change back the display setting just found it in an earlier post and it worked.

Thanks for you answers. You can also remove the settings file inside this folder:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Gas Powered Games\Supreme Commander 2

This will not fix the problem, but reset the settings and makes SupCom 2 start again.

I'm aware of how to reset the settings or use safe mode. That doesn't change the issue that what's supposed to be a feature isn't working correctly - I'd really like to use that second display, and it seems to work fine for others.
I just wonder what could be the difference.

Unable to replicate the fault, works fine for me. try the minimum res for your 2nd display and see if that works.

I have the exact same graphic cards and monitor configuration, but on win7. It doesn't work either.

same problem for me, with same configuration

That's super strange. I remember that when I first bought the game (about a half year ago) first thing I did was using both monitors for SC2. After some time I have decided that I want play with only one of them. Now, after few months I wanted to use both monitors again and suddenly I have the same problem as you do.
First screen 1920x1080
Second screen 1680x1050
Win7 64bit
GF 560

I have this same issue (W10 2x1920x1200).. Anyone found a fix yet?

I analysed the dump files in the bin folder, and it shows this: 0xC0000005 (The thread tried to read or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access).

I have tried the 2GB+ patch for applications (Large Address Aware) but to no avail.

Dual screens does not work for anyone with windows 10 regardless of make/brand/model of gpu. I no longer can run in dual since upgrading.

It seems to be an inherent problem with the game engine as neither sup com 1 or Forged Alliance can run dual either,

note this is not the same as the ops issue, win 7 and 8/8.1 can all run dual monitors.

Hey thanks for your response :) It is somewhat weird because I'm not aware of changes to the driver model since W8.

I will try to see if I can do something more and would love to hear from others too if they managed to find a fix :)

Not sure its directly a driver issue as neither intel, amd or nvidia can do it, it must be a system call by the gameengine. (ie bypassing the drivers/direct x) I could be wrong, but I would have though it it was driver/direct x related someone on win 10 somewhere would be able to play it, and so far apparently no-one on win 10 can play dual screens.

Still hopefully you or someone else will come up with something.
