This game is shadow of it's prequel in terms of resource system, scale (look this maps, how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the mapsize compared to the unitsize is), strategy, strategy varity, graphic, unit desing in general, all this is not to say that SupCom 2 is bad game game. It's a normal game, but a nomral game aka generic RTS Nr. 0815 is not a worthy sequel to an extrodenary game.
Forged Alliance isn't slower than SupCom 2, the average game time is almost the same (with the difference beeing that on the very low levels of play/people that dont understand the resource System may have problems with FA.
I'm a fanboy, obviously. But not of Forged Alliance, but of Supreme Commander, yet this game that dares to call it self Supreme Commander does neither deserve this name nor should it be called a sequel. It's an RTS with a Commander that happens to had the same developer that tried to earn some money with the good name of an earlier development.
Sorry if this was too theatralic, but show me anything compareable to this in Supreme Commander 2;

(and thats only the point of massive scale not even talking about the rest of the fundamental and for me gamebreaking flaws of Supreme Commander 2)
And here is Chris Taylor missconception that led to SC2:

Needing lower hardware specs made it much more affordable to rig mom's PC to play it too! I know there's a lotta hate for SupCom2....and understandably so with it not being a good sequel...but it is a good game IMHO. I have enjoyed it since release..once I got over what it's not and what it will never be.
I have moved more towards Planetary Annihilation...I really enjoy that title save for no pausing/saving in vs. AI games. But for a quick game on my laptop...SupCom2 wins, hands down. At least for me.
I never stopped playing SupCom2, it's good fun! Right now I'm on a classic RTS kick so I'm playing Starcraft, Total Annihilation and mostly C&C Tiberian Sun. Long live the RTS genre!
In all reality SupCom2 should've been renamed... SupCom Arcade or something that wasn't Supreme Commander...maybe even just been called SupCom... I don't know. That might have helped it's massive disappointment from those expecting something as epic as FA and SupCom.
For your question... Boh...?!? This game is wonderful, is tactic, and it has a beatiful Maps designer. The breeds are differentiated.
Plus this is the only RTS when something can Camping HAHAHAHAhAH :)
If something want a friend to play this game added me.
It has adopted some interesting unit ability concepts from open source large scale RTS though like the jump ability of cybran units and I really dig the ingame techtree concept in any RTS game.
It's just that all in all SC2 can't live up to FA so many people are disappointed. It's even worse since large scale RTS are a niche of a niche of a niche market and quality releases will be continue to be rare in the near future.
SupCom1 + Forged Alliance is still the best one in SupCom history, tho, I am reinstalling SupCom2 right now just to play the campaign. I feel that I gonna delete it after 10 minutes again. In the past I unintalled SupCom2 after 10 minutes of gameplay. It did hurt my brain.
The common problem with RTS that I seen and played them is that they truly lack the story. I came from the world that I play CC1, CC:Tiberian Sun, CC:Generals, Galactic Battleground Saga, Starcraft, Warcraft 1, Warcraft 2, Warcraft 3, Age of Empire 2. Anyway the list goes on. They are AAA titles to me because of the story that they gave to me. It actually allow me to have tons of re-playability with them.
SupCom2 is ok. Negaitve side is the graphic is not that beautiful as SupCom1 and few units. Positive side is less CPU intensive than SupCom1 and no micro-managing.
Basically, depending on what type of RTS player you are, the choice is clear:
1 - You prefer strategy and massive battles with no micro management, you choose SupCom1 or FA.
OR
2 - You prefer small unit actions and micro managing your battles, you choose Starcraft 2.
SupCom2 tried to do both and failed. I know why, they tried to appeal to casual fans. Casual fans are fickle, one moment they love you the next they forget you because the next 1000 games that are released per year take their attention away.
When will they learn their lesson -.-
somehow.
