Commander auto repair/salvage.
Is it possible to somehow set the commander to automatically repair friendlies and reclaim mass from wrecks? Engineers do it automatically, I don't understand why wouldn't commander do that too.

That is because the ACU is considered a Combatant (e.g. military Unit) in the first place, and their logic behaves like.
Setting them on patrol will make them perform engineering dutys but they will prefer fending of hostiles if any are in range.

What migth work is giving them a Guard/Assist command by pressing G. When set on the ground, they will stay in that area and help wherever they can: repair stuff, reclaim wreckages, assist factories, etc.

Ill try the patrol thing. Its fine for it to self defend, but it could do other things on its own too, should there be no hostiles near it.

Thanks.

my acu seems to prefer reclaim over combat when on patrol. maybe it's because it starts reclaiming, then gets attacked, and won't fight back until the reclaim is finished. also on patrol, my acu keeps standing still and spinning his upper body in circles over and over for no reason. so i usually don't put it on patrol on the front line.

The former thing is a consequence of the ACU switching between engineering and combat mode - whilst perfroming the one set of actions, the unit AI to do the others is disabled (most likely to prevent nasty loops where it repairs allies inmidst a fire fight) until it returns back to idle.

The other one is a problem with minimum weapon/reclamation range. (Yes, the game features also minimum ranges, althought they are never shown. Most noticeable with Arty.)
Since the ACU must be stationary to perform engineering duty, it won't be able to figure out it has to move to actually reach something right infront of it,

Both cases are annoying. Probably sloppy coding.
