Supreme Commander 2

Supreme Commander 2

Are the Aeon's Shotja units any good?
I like the idea of a sniper bot, I want to know if the range is good enough to out range basic point defenses... because the range looks kinda small to do so.

With the Range upgrade, Shotjas can outrange Cybran and UEF PD, but not Aeon one.

However, you don't use them for this purpose, that's what Mobile Missile Launchers are for.

You use Shotjas (which are great units) for their alpha damage. Groups of them can take out approaching enemies with coordinated fire with coordinated fire before they get a chance to shoot back. That makes them especially usefull against ACUs.

Actually, the Shotja is besides the Nuke Silo the only unit that can one-shoot itself (or a comparable unit... with sufficient Training and Veterancy even Loyalists!), which makes them insane to create areas of no man's land.

TL;DR: Yes, they are really good, and used in competetive matches.

Ok, thanks. :)

Aeons? You mean Illuminate?

In Supreme Commander and Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, they were called the "Aeon Illuminate".

After their alien-gods returned and blew up earth and their princess disappeared, they went through some identity crysis, in which they renamed themselves into "The Illuminate".

People still call them Aeon, since that name is shorter (and harder to misspell).

But technically, yes, they are a different faction now, especially as they incorporated Seraphim tech into their military (The Vulthoo was originaly a Seraphim unit, and all those floaty bits, the Wilfindja, the Shotja... they look quite seraphim).
Speaking of Seraphim, I wonder if a Supreme Commander 3 will come out with the return of the Seraphim, the Cybran Nation or whatever they call themselves supposedly have a Seraphim brain that they're gunna try to merge with their leader's.... It's not gunna happen but I can dream.

Well, the Seraphim got banished to the quantum realm by Burke. Humanity has subsequently stumbled about an absurdly powerfull artefact by another precursor civilisation. Meanwhile QAI has more or less direct control about the entire coalition's military. And Brackman and a rogue Cybran are probing around with a Seraphim brain.

Knowing the basics of space opera plot development, it's kinda obvious that the other precursors happen to not be friendly, and humanity's only hope will be freeing the Seraphim again to figth them.

But because of QAI and the conflict ball, there will be massive infigthign that keeps the factions from von neumanning their way to the point where they can throw moon-sized nukes at anything.

Shotja are difficult to control. You probably need another control group dedicated to shotja only.

Dang, didn't know much lore but that's some cool beans.... So if we do get a 3rd Supreme Commander, we might have the original factions and (a few) other(s)?
I might have to look around for some supreme commander 1 + 2 lore. All I knew was the Cybrans were messing 'round with that Seraphim brain.

Sadly, there is not even remotely as much lore for SupCom than there was for TA. And there are few people interested into it (i, too, must agree that shaby writting of the actual plot ruined the very well developed universe it is based on).

Somewhere on the old archives GPG forums there is some sort of "Holy Grail" hidden, where you can get loads of sweet lore confrimed by the developers. Like the fact that some Aeon Weapons deal damage by directly displacing portions of space within enemy units, or that mass is actually just a collection of some precious and rare heavy elements, and that all other materials and elements used to construct units are directly drawn from the enviroment.

Also, in case you missunderstood something: my previous post was fact-based only in the first paragraph, the other two were pure speculation. (Although i deem it likely.)
