Supreme Commander 2

Supreme Commander 2

Improved Graphics and/or Unit Mods?
I recently just bought supreme commander 2 and a little disappointed in the graphics overall. Watching things explode into pieces is one reason why total annihilation is still popular(own that too); I would think that explosions and destroyed units would have more grandeur to them considering it's a sequal to the revamp of total annihilation-21 years old.
Unit variety is pretty slim(reminds me of warcraft 1 units), as well as some units being from supreme commander one and chopped down a peg or two(specifically experimentals[fatboy II? More like fatboy 0.5]). Definately feels streamlined for multiplayer championships then for casual play.
Seems like the Devs are going down the same road as the ones that took over for command and conquer- changing economy and streamlining combat instead of leaving the economy alone and allowing tactical and strategic advantages through more unit patches and overall improvements. Would have been better to make another expansion to supreme commander 1, stand alone, and have graphic improvements(building onto the original design), better experimentals(maybe game enders), and add research improvements that effect units.
I give this game 3 months tops in my library before I forget about it and buy supreme commander one(which I should have done instead), considering its massive mod support(which this one lacks altogether).

With regard to Supreme Commander 2 you need to know that it was game released simultaneously for PC and Xbox-360º to fit a game of these in a console a lot had to be cut. I recommend install the mod Supreme Commander 2 - Revamp, will give you more options units:

Huh... as far as i know, there is only a mod pack that increases the resolution of some map's textures, floating around somewhere on ModDB. But you should check this guide, which is pretty much a list of all SupCom2 mods ever created: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=474003196

Also, this game was released in 2010... what sort of graphics are you expecting? And you must keep in mind, this isn't engine-wise relatively Shooter, but a game that simulates up to 8000 units in real time, with each unit's turrets and projectiles being simulated physically accurate in real time aswell.

You may skip this, just a little rant:
Also, i don't understand why people say this is a "dumbed down" sequel. Besides the economy changes, which are admittably a thing of personal taste, SupCom2 is having that giant Research tree for each faction, which was implemented by the devs because the previous games had to many units. Look at any serious FA(F)-match. approx. 60%of the units given to each players disposal aren't build once in a game. Mostly, because they're merely up- or downgrades to some already existing one in another Tech-tier. Instead, SupCom2 features this dynamic research function which allows you to adept your units on your personal taste and current combat situation, and also makes all units viable in combat. What people are seeing as reduction in complexity is actually an increase beyond limits (besides veterancy, SupCom1 units can not be upgraded at all).

I can totaly understand if people don't like this sequel (SupCom2 is a superb game, but a terrible sequel), but claiming this game was chopped down from FA is merely hypocracy.

I would say that if it takes time to get to 'experimentals', then they should have some actual emphasis in strategy then building a bunch of units (that are available at start) and swarm them. Previous games put experimentals towards late game for a reason, because they'd domolish early game units unless there was a bunch of micro-management. Now, experimentals get obliterated by beginning units which doesn't make much sense. For new people, yea this game is okay; but people that grew up with TA, this is lack luster at best.

Technically, there is a mod that gives veterancy and another that allows upgrades to units for forged alliance (I assume where supcom2 got its inspiration for a research tree, much like how the devs of doom got inspiration from the 'finishers mod' for the original doom). Since there are no tiers in supcom2, a research tree fills the gap of tiered units...kind of. And yes, some units are from forged alliance then stripped of some abilities. The titan assault bot and fatboy are excellent examples. Both are from FA and lack abilities altogether or unlocked through the research tree. Fatboy seems more like a skinnyboy lacking in any real armor(no shields) and 0 factory capability; and the Titan, which was one of the strongest units in FA, is now basically a tier 1 with a couple of abilities.
As far as graphics go, I'd expect to see pieces when blowing stuff up and explosions that last longer then blinks of an eye. Nukes are less glamorous then before (even compared with total annihilation).
I grew up with total annihilation so my opinion may differ from others. I loved supcom1 and forged alliance because it built onto a foundation that was really well done for its time. I'll always be a fan of this genre of rts, but I'm just not feeling this one. Not a fan of the changed economy, stripped units, no tiers, lack luster experimentals, and research tree to fill gaps in unit design. Compared to the ones before it, it is very much 'dumbed down'. Multiple units give more tactical and strategic capabilities and it's up to the player to decide on their worth in combat. Supcom2 and FA bundles are the same price on steam...that should say something with comparisons. Saying it's dumbed down or that it's chopped from FA doesn't make it hypocricy, as I'm sure it isn't coming from developers that do the same thing but from players that were fans of the game prior to this one.
