Supreme Commander 2

Supreme Commander 2

Cannot Save Campaign SC2 - Windows 10
HI - Anyone have this problem. When I am playing the campaign, if I try and save, it errors with "Failed to save file"

Running on Windows 10, have tried running as admin, etc.

Firstly, try to verify your files via steam. Corupted downloads can easily trouble folder architecture, ending up with your game trying to save at a location which does not exist.
I'm having the same problem (and also using Windows10) when doing a fresh installation of the game. I always get "failed to save game:", without further explanation, when I give a name to my savegame and click on Save. I did verify my files through steam. Also checked permissions in the 'my games' folder to avoid windows 10 permission issues.
Anyone who knows about this problem? Cloud save is not available for this game.

If your permissions are fine, is the folder set to read only?

Its not 10 doing it directly as i can save fine, as can many others.

Thanks but I do not have any issue with other savegames from other games I have installed. It's only Supreme commander 2 that has issues. I did find out there was no savegames folder in documents\mygames\squareenix\supreme commander 2 so I made one myself and assigned permission to everyone and unchecked read-only. Then, I noticed SC2 created an empty save game folder (12462155) but still gives the message that the save was failed (although it was able to create that folder so permission should be ok). Als checked the .exe to run as admin and even tried compatibilty mode but no improvment so far...

That is so weird, it is acting like the game has a permission issue. I did a quick google search and it only brought up a handful of threads.

Just in case anyone else come accross this problem, turns out it was my AV causing the issue. I thought I had turned it off, but turns out the "Folder protection" was blocking access to the saves folder. Never gave me any notifications hence why I missed it! Obvious now! Many thanks to everyone for their advice!

One person had their antivirus interfering,I know right, that is just bizzarre, but its something to check.

Essentially one of these should fix it :)

verify game files
administrator privileges
compatability mode
regenerate game.prefs
folder permissions
re-install
antivirus

If non of those work, honestly no clue.

Hi Ceejay,

thanks a lot for wanting to help me out! Really appreciate it.
I found the problem. Apparentely, my antivirus (Bitdefender) blocked access for supreme commander 2 to store the savegame (in Save files section -> protected folder). I found it back in the log files. I have added an exception, from within BD, to allow the program to do this from now on and I can easily save my file.
