Mortar aiming glitch with 81mm Mortar Carrier
Hi,

I am running into an issue with the 81mm Mortar Carrier from the US. When entering direct control mode or 3rd person mode. The mortar doesn't aim left or right and just moves up and down, it doesn't align with where the mouse is on screen either. First time running into this.

Anybody had this happen before and know how to solve it?

Thanks.

I have not played with that vehicle in this game but I am sure this may be the issue with that particular vehicle/mortar. The game tries to mimic the unit as close as possible to reality. So, that carries does NOT pivot/traverse like actual tank tracks etc. The mortar "turn table" does NOT turn 360 degrees, I believe it has a very small left and right limit if any at all, maybe 45 degrees left and right and that may be way too much in real life. So you don't have much freedom of traverse when in direct mode, you may have to turn the vehicle - drive it forward/backwards whilst turning. I can imagine the headache with this vehicle in this game SMH. In game but for sure in reality, they would have to point the rear end of that vehicle in the direction of fire to the target first and make minor/small adjustments to hit the target after initial round ... in this game ... sorry, I hate to have to say it but currently you will probably never hit unless you get "lucky" with YOUR mortars ... anyways, if you have to make a larger adjustment left or right, turn the wheel whichever way and point the back end of that vehicle towards where that next round needs to go ... I am sure that is what is going on here even though I have not played with that vehicle in this game. You can and must move the vehicle, forward or backwards while in direct mode, even while aiming and looking at the target. The AI will not process that part I have no doubt, it's not a SPG either. Must be a nightmare ordering your AI to attack a target with this unit and let it act on its own, F that, just self destruct LOL. Hope that helps understand how that system operates and hopefully it fixes your issue.

I understand what you are saying, however that's not the issue, the motor carrier does have some level of left and right movement. The issue was the game was not lining up the vehicles motor with the cursor in direct control mode. For example. I would have the mouse aimed at a tree. However the green/red aiming marker for the vehicle would be 50 or so meters to the left, moving up and down but not left or right to be inline with the mouse cursor. As I mentioned its the first time I encountered the issue so I wasn't experiencing this issue previously. The issue did resolve itself after a reboot of the game. However if anybody has a fix while in battle that would be ideal as I wouldn't have to restart the game. For the time being I have decided to not use this vehicle anymore.
