Absolutely braindead AI
I know everyone knows this but the AI in this game is utterly braindead and I mean specifically units not firing at enemies right in front of them. I just played a conquest battle and not a single one of my soldiers would fire unless directly told to. The enemy would run up and gun down my soldiers with ease.

There's micromanagement and then there's bad AI
This is the latter - horrible atrocious utterly garbage 'AI' (there is no 'I' really)

Until you fix this I can assure you this game will never have a large audience. This is the most unfun experience I've had in gaming to just watch my braindead soldiers get gunned down and stand there DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I can do micromanagement, I can control a lot of units at once but not even the best microclickers can not tell over two hundred individual units to fire at enemy units in a timely manner.

Fix it.

That's a mostly inevitable issue when projectiles have realistic paths in RTS games. You have a top down view and can't see small terrain elevations.

Beside, this is an old ass engine that has been updated and updated over spaghetti and at one point when you add too much bolognese over the pasta it becomes a noodle soup

Well that's the problem. Faces of War AI isn't better than all the following games, from my shallow gaming observations
But it doesn't seem to be any worse other than pure older machines limitations

It is said that in real life World War 2, soldiers, from both sides, seldom fired at each other. Which is hard to believe considering how many died in that war.

Le jeux est beau mais hélas l' IA est à la ramasse.
Aucune IA n'a pu rivaliser avec celle de MOW ASSAULT SQUAD, que ce soit AS2 ou GOH qui ont été configuré pour le multi joueur.

The game is beautiful but unfortunately the AI is a mess.
No AI has been able to compete with that of MOW ASSAULT SQUAD, whether it is AS2 or GOH which have been configured for multiplayer.

This was a rage post mostly but it really is infuriating when I see my units just stand there comatose, even when I think I've accepted this fact it will still get to me during the really hectic moments. If they had just a little bit better reaction time, the enemy AI getting five shots off before mine get even one is just stupid. Obviously in those situations the AI is going to win unless I Micro/Direct Control which I can only do for so many units at a time.

Ok its an old engine so you have a reason for why this is an issue, but it still doesn't make the situation better.
