Conquest Enhanced Difficulty is Crazy
Been playing Men of War for years + 300 hours into GoH and I'm struggling to hold my position on the 2nd battle in dynamic conquest against the Russians set on normal difficulty. The ******s just keep on coming!

I will set up MG42 nests and AT guns with overlapping fields of fire + mortars set in the rear. I will entrench my half tracks and tanks spaced out across my defense line. Infantry squads upgraded with captured Russian semi auto rifles, mgs and AT rifles will be entrenched with special thought given to machine gunners, AT rifle and sniper positions. Additionally, I am running the medic mod that drastically increased the bleed out timer so survival rate increases dramatically.

What ends up happening is around the 20 minute mark, the enemy armor starts to overwhelm my defenses due to sheer number of T-26s, BT series and BA armored cars throwing themselves at my troops.

Anyone else having this problem?

CE takes getting used to. There are playthroughs on youtube with it, maybe you can pick up some tricks.I suggest joining CE discord, you could get more help there

Get an infantry gun early, great for off and def missions, longer range, more precision and more powerful than the machine gun / AT gun / mortar combo, it can deal with light armor too. give it an ammo crate if possible otherwise you have to control it to conserve rounds

You can also set battle difficulty on normal but Economy difficulty on easy. The enemy army will be smaller. However, I find that there are too many research points this way.

i actually made a mod to make conquest "fair" so that both the player and the ai have the same cp and their units have the same accuracy and health (even on heroic ai accuracy is slightly lower than player units). difficulty of objectives scales the ai unit multiplier and rewards for players more equitably. i tried not to touch anything else so it doesnt conflict with other mods. ill update it in a day or two.

but if you just play with vanilla this is the route i take when im in the early game like where youre at now:

attack phase (turn 1):
- research up to the panzer 2
- research rifle squads
- research to get the next "stage" to deploy more units
- buy a bunch of panzer 2s and a rifle squad or two
- spawn panzer 2s first, load he rounds, steamroll the first objective
- spawn infantry have at least one squad delay the enemy at first objective, move everyone else to steamroll second objective
- the moment you take both objective you will win the mission, if you can have infantry jump in any empty enemy weapons/vehicles to capture them then end mission

defend phase (turn 2):
- research field engineers (at/ap miners and flamers are free to research after that so take them too)
- research to the next stage if possible (depends on what random bonuses objective gave last turn on capture)
- use captured guns/vehicles/mortars as cannon fodder, if you didnt get these research 20mm flak, mg34 tripod, 8cm mortar
- dont forget to bring some ammo crates or preferably the little logi trailer if you researched it
- armor is so thin in early stages your autocannons make short work of soviet tanks that are limited to one shell at a time
- keep at least one panzer 2 on call as a qrf in case of unexpected breakthrough or flank since it can reposition fast
- build sandbags at objectives, infantry in cover behind them, hedghogs and wire in front, at mines on roads, ap mines in foliage
- pray for vril

i know thats kinda convoluted, to say the least, but its the only angle ive found to survive that early chaos.

I don't play Germany that much, but as soviet I find officer with a binocular spotting very useful and I get a lot of tanks of my own, imo tanks are much better than at guns or MG squads, because they have both while offer superior protection and mobility, I bring at guns when I capture some German one or for early game where tank guns are smaller than at and I need a big gun to puncture some tanks like panzer 3 in one or 2 shots, since the 76mm guns on the T20 and BT and T40 tank aren't the best at shooting armor tanks.. also put your tanks slightly in front while at guns, but usually I just roll around with alot tank heavy set up. Hopefully it help you.

Used the tips on rushing tanks (snagged 3 pz.IIIs) + grabbing some AA guns. Managed to barely hold the Russians off on the first defense battle.....40 armored vehicles and 1k infantry seems a bit excessive imo.

i'll die on the hill of the 'difficulty' is an excuse from the devs for not wanting to balance the mod. I want to play CEv2, but it's not fun. And I enjoy difficulty, currently playing through the campaign on Hardcore and enjoying that more than any of the CEv2 moments. Which sucks cause CEv2 has alot of absolutely awesome QoL stuff.

I enjoy the mod but I find it hard to believe its "balanced" when I am going up against 40 armored vehicles + 1000 infantry on the first defense battle of a normal difficulty campaign dude...

Setting player and ai to have the exact same size army will always make the game too easy because the ai will never outsmart the player. The more scripts added to improve ai tactics the worse performance becomes. Therefore the ai needs to have a large number of units to make the conquest interesting. We’ve tried smaller ai sizes, but either players don’t use it (hard and heroic economy has smaller sizes) or it gets too easy after a while. That’s also why we have guides so that players can customize the ai size to whatever they want since everyone always complains about something different .
uses the IG turret, it can crack anything until the first t34 and kv1 come along and it's great against infantry

ahhhh i see, i was overwhelmed too with the amount of tanks and tankettes the enemy fields, i was expecting perhaps that the enemy can field x1 or x2 of our forces, but turns out that even for the first defence match, that it may be up to x10. I'll have to check those guides to tone it down a little bit for the sake of making it playable without wanting to shoot myself on the nuts at the amount of micro

When I was noob in this game - i had same problems too. But with time I learned and now its not big deal.

For people who wants ,,fair'' fight or balanced battles - in war, in the battles nobody ever had a ,,fair'' fight. Just roleplay - that your are commanding smaller forces against bigger enemy. Problem solved.
