but if you just play with vanilla this is the route i take when im in the early game like where youre at now:
attack phase (turn 1):
- research up to the panzer 2
- research rifle squads
- research to get the next "stage" to deploy more units
- buy a bunch of panzer 2s and a rifle squad or two
- spawn panzer 2s first, load he rounds, steamroll the first objective
- spawn infantry have at least one squad delay the enemy at first objective, move everyone else to steamroll second objective
- the moment you take both objective you will win the mission, if you can have infantry jump in any empty enemy weapons/vehicles to capture them then end mission
defend phase (turn 2):
- research field engineers (at/ap miners and flamers are free to research after that so take them too)
- research to the next stage if possible (depends on what random bonuses objective gave last turn on capture)
- use captured guns/vehicles/mortars as cannon fodder, if you didnt get these research 20mm flak, mg34 tripod, 8cm mortar
- dont forget to bring some ammo crates or preferably the little logi trailer if you researched it
- armor is so thin in early stages your autocannons make short work of soviet tanks that are limited to one shell at a time
- keep at least one panzer 2 on call as a qrf in case of unexpected breakthrough or flank since it can reposition fast
- build sandbags at objectives, infantry in cover behind them, hedghogs and wire in front, at mines on roads, ap mines in foliage
- pray for vril
i know thats kinda convoluted, to say the least, but its the only angle ive found to survive that early chaos.

Setting player and ai to have the exact same size army will always make the game too easy because the ai will never outsmart the player. The more scripts added to improve ai tactics the worse performance becomes. Therefore the ai needs to have a large number of units to make the conquest interesting. We’ve tried smaller ai sizes, but either players don’t use it (hard and heroic economy has smaller sizes) or it gets too easy after a while. That’s also why we have guides so that players can customize the ai size to whatever they want since everyone always complains about something different .
ahhhh i see, i was overwhelmed too with the amount of tanks and tankettes the enemy fields, i was expecting perhaps that the enemy can field x1 or x2 of our forces, but turns out that even for the first defence match, that it may be up to x10. I'll have to check those guides to tone it down a little bit for the sake of making it playable without wanting to shoot myself on the nuts at the amount of micro
For people who wants ,,fair'' fight or balanced battles - in war, in the battles nobody ever had a ,,fair'' fight. Just roleplay - that your are commanding smaller forces against bigger enemy. Problem solved.
