What is the additional armor value?
As in the topic, what is the 'additional armor' value listed in light vehicles and tanks? For example Panzer 3 has hull and turret armor 1-50 and additional armor '20'. Where is the armor located?

I might be wrong, but I think additional armor refers to armored side skirts or objects that will take shots (occasionally this can be a barrel strapped on the tank for instance)

The location is different for every vehicle.

The game shows "statistics" but not not the armour thickness for the specific parts of the vehicle. You'd need to go and study external references for each vehicle (and the variants of that vehicle) to see where that armour was applied to and how it was applied. As in was it spaced or was it applique?

For your example of the Panzer III Ausf L (the variant Ausf L is important)

The 20mm is spaced armour applied to the turret mantlet and the front hull plate (the vertical plate the hull MG and the driver's visor are part of).

So the thickness over those areas is 30mm + 20mm.

The devs haven't explain in any of the blogs exactly how "spaced armour" changes the behaviour of the various projectiles in the game.

I believe a recent change to the editor allows you to run a command/parameter/switch to show the armour thickness. Someone else might be able to supply details.

For details on the Panzer III Ausf L armour you can watch this video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNWimJW0Akw&t=5s

The extra 20mm plate on the hull is very nicely shown at 5:37.

Note the 'extra armour' is missing from the turret mantlet but the framework for mounting that armour is still present. This doesn't seem to get mentioned at any point in the video and no explanation for the missing armour is provided. :steamsad:

A black and white photo is present and it appears the extra turret armour was missing when the vehicle was captured in Africa?

No idea for that particular vehicle. I can't see any additional armour on the half-track. As far as I am aware it had no applique or spaced armour.

Perhaps they mean the gun shield since it hasn't got any stats for a "turret"? The C also has a gun shield but has no stats for extra armour.

Maybe they are counting the side stowage bins as extra armour? The C also has side stowage but in a different arrangement.

An extra 8 mm isn't going to stop anything anyway so does it really matter where it is?

Nah it doesnt matter, I was just wondering how that works
