I understand immersion and all, but I'm not very versed on WW2 units or their purposes. especially any non american units. Is there any in game resource to actually understand what im looking at in the tech trees? i can only handle googling a german name once or twice before i want to die.

I'm not sure what you are asking for exactly? Translations for the names or just what each unit has as equipment? If you want to know the equipment you can click on the unit in the buy screen and look at that unit's weapons. If you want translations for names i'm not sure there is an in game resource for that at all but the germans name their things after what their purpose was.

Sturm = Assault (in role, the direct translation is something like 'storm')
Pz I -VI = Bigger number generally means a better tank, excluding the 35/8 (t)'s and the stolen french tanks.
JagdPz/PzJaeger = tank destroyers
PaK = AT guns
Jaeger infantry = generally more elite infantry

Those are the more general overview of what the german units are and mean.

Just watch Sir Jelly Beans videos on youtube for a general overview of units. I can't really think of any language issues with the Soviets their tanks all seem straightfoward with letters/numbers like KV-1s or SUs and symbols to denote specific kinds, the germans on the other hand have basic words like Jager('Hunter'), Werfer('Thrower'), Luft('Air') and of course Panzer which should be obvious enough hopefully.

The infantry units like Fallschirmjager,('Parachute Troopers') Blau(Blue) Division, and Gebirsjager(basically Mountain Soldiers) were specific German elite units so they have specific names.

Don't forget about specialist troops to who have their battlefield roles like aufklarungs or fusilier infantry: those are recon troops who scout ahead of main force. Similar to armored cars which task is locate enemy and relay its position back to HQ most of the time without engaging: examples are Sdkfz 221-222-234.

Various halftracks such as Sdkfz 250 are meant to provide infantry with some protection, allow them to move faster on field and cover bigger distances and help with it's mounted MG.

Pak is your AT guns, the bigger the number the bigger the caliber, same goes with Flak which is your AAA guns. Various forms of lIg or SIg are infantry guns, lFH or SFH are your field artillery pieces or howitzers.

Infantry names apart from some Jagers, Sturm and Aufklarungs are most of the time are honorific German military traditions like Grenadier, if you add Panzer to it you have your mechanized infantry if Grenadiers are (mot.) they rely on trucks to be transported around.

Panzer Lehr and Grossdeutchland are elite divisions having their own name so it means their units are way better than you average Grenadiers or Sicherungs.

Pioneers are self explaining they are combat engineers tasked with clearing the battlefield from obstacles

yeah sorry i wasn't super clear. its quite literally the names of non american units, especially German (i think i have mild adult dyslexia) i can "read" them but i can hardly distinguish them in the menus. i am obviously able to sus out the prefix and affix of the names but damn once ive read the names and try to compare i actually feel my brain start to melt.
