Use smoke like a bush to hide in.
You move into the smoke cloud and it hides your units. Makes sure you set all the units you want to hide to HOLD FIRE If any unit fires out of the smoke enemy units will fire into the smoke. A unit that shoots out of has no concealment.
If an enemy units enters the smoke you are hiding in then that enemy unit shares the location of your hidden units and the enemy will fire at your units that are no longer hidden.
If you want a wall of smoke or a curtain of smoke you need more than just smoke grendes. I've tried larger smoke screens using mortars but they are so inaccurate it's a waste of time.
The amount of effort required to fire enough rounds and get them in the vcorrect places means you are better off doing something else.
A few artillery units have smoke (actualluy usually WP) and the STUG IIIB has smoke rounds so you can get a desent smoke curtain up with them. Just don't fire the WP type smoke onto your soldiers. It's not good.
