Newbie question about artillery
So I've played a little bit with friends and one thing has confused me, when trying to use like proper artillery guns or even a Katyusha, I tell them to attack an enemy and they just don't? I turned them onto fire at will, faced them towards the target, and they either just don't shoot or turn to fire at something else. I took command of one personally and fired just fine (i thought the enemy was out of range); is there something specifically making my units ignore orders?

Gun targeting has been a known issue for some time. As long as their arc is clear to the target, double clicking should force them to fire. But artillery and tanks prefer to stare at enemy infantry half a mile away instead of a tank down the street from them.

Most heavy artillery and rocket units spawn with hold fire set. You need to set them to fire at will if you want them to attack enemy units without your order.

They use a lot of ammo so having the unit shoot by itself can be wasteful.

fire on ground command is a good way to deal with pesky enemy guns. You don't want to sit there manually firing every single shot when you can be driving a tank instead.

Most of the times it has to do with something blocking the, proposed, indirect, line of sight to the target. The way to combat the problem is to "F6" (Area Fire) your fire on an object of height near or around your target, objects like a sandbag or brick wall infront or behind your target will, usually, be enough for your artillery to open fire, if not, then a nearby building will do.
