How do you deal with flamethrowers in Conquest
I have been having such a BRUTAL time fighting against the US and most of these issues do come from the HORRID unit AI plaguing this game at the moment How does everyone deal with the flamethrowers? Because every single battle I have now I will move slowly forward and look away just for a moment because my tanks don't care they are getting shot by AT or infantry are sprinting straight at them with grenades. So I have to take control of them only to come back and see 2 soldiers with flamethrowers having a nice Kraut BBQ with my units and not one tank or vehicle is doing anything about it, nobody is shooting, and everyone is just running into each other lighting each other on fire in the process.

So far my strategy has just been to only invest in mortars, artillery, and snipers and that works but this can't be the only way to deal with this because all of my call ins stages are now just snipers, mortars, and ammo trucks to fuel this slow paced gameplay and I feel like I am just cheesing more than anything.

Maybe get a cheap infantry unit such as one full of riflemen you can set them to fire or no fire or maybe fire which they will fire even if not shot at but shots go near but anyway ...

Spread them out hide them in bushes and behind things this is your RECON element .. then have your tanks, AT guns, Inf guns ... BEHIND this line of units ...

The infantry sees farther than how far your Tank, AT gun, Inf gun, machine gun can see. And these units shoot far compared to infantry. so keep them behind and move up slow. If you have a tank you can bring it up when you see a bunch of enemy infantry have them shoot it up then move back ..

But while doing this be careful because their infantry can see your tank and any enemy AT guns etc. can shoot at your tank that is maybe hidden and behind its own infantry.

I restarted a Conquest Dynamic campaign to test some stuff out ... I had enemy flamers my very first mission.

But I had an infantry squad too .. actually two of them ok so I should have mentioned this too.

When you move the infantry forward ya can click on the icon thing and it moves the entire squad so then you Right Mouse Click somewhere on the map.

But you can ALSO Right Mouse Click and then HOLD and DRAG the mouse such as forward and this sets them op in a line formation seeing your entire front line and they are spread out.

Whilst doing this in a trench system you click on the trench ... RMB and then you Click and DRAG mouse at same time and it disperses them in the trench spread out ..

They were in this spread out trench formation when the flamers showed up ...

As soon as I saw the flames I pressed the icon symbol for the squad got them out of the trench on top pulled them back some put them in a spread out line formation facing the towards the flames ...

Then, I brought up my "tank" the 1st research tree machine gun tank thing... brought it up BEHIND the infantry as they were spotting the flamers continued to pursue and my infantry saw them and started shooting at them along with the tank.

Well I have always followed the idea and tactic of bring infantry front and forward first to clear mines and potential threats for vehicles as I use my vehicles as a support and not so much as the dominant fighting force. I like combined arms tactics but geez the unit AI sometimes just does not like to shoot at whats in front of them or next to them. So it makes it so infuriating when I sit here and out of the blue a flamethrower starts spraying and not one person is shooting or doing anything about it. I do also like to watch the reticle to double check I am not too far away so idk sometimes it just feels really clunky and unresponsive and thats why I am so confused if its me doing something wrong or am I getting played here by wonky AI

yes. 3 ammo trucks, two howitzers, brew a coffee and there will be no flamethrower left once you bomb them for 40 minutes straight.

They are niche units, if you are caught surprised then you either blob too much, not spread units and not care about LOS (loss there and here can happen but seems to me you complain about this being common occurence?)

use a waterthrower to counter the effect of the flamethrower :ojchicken:

As soon a s I read the title I went Sniper / AA gun / Infantry gun.
Anything that has some range.

Keep your units spread out with some back a bit more defence in depth.

The problem is a lot of those Western Europe maps are really very congested. Bocage and towns mean the engagement range is very close.

Sending cheap infantry in won't achieve much as the US riflemen will make short work of them with their semi auto rifles.

An officer with binoculars might make finding them easier.
