There's probably a hotkey or command to change it back, I just don't know what it is.
Make sure you have HE ammo loaded. You can't indirect fire other types of ammo.
With an infantry gun even using F6 you can't always spam rounds at a point on the map you can't see.
sometimes if I get at least one unit to able to see the spot you can fire at it. Which technically might be indirect for the gun that's shooting. Sometimes it fires one round then stops.
Full artillery pieces don't seem to have this issue most of the time.
From my limited play on the new maps I've noted the bocage really gets in the way of infantry gun type units and they won't fire at pretty much anything.

All you can do is shoot at trees and hope it hits one.
