Conquest have its own modifier that mimic multiplayer , unit are weaker than usual , less range , less explosive radius .
This isn't a game you can play with the sort of knowledge you get from watching "Saving Private Ryan" even though most of if was reasonably realistic.
For some players learning all this is just part of the game and adds entertainment for others it's just frustrating and like a boring history lesson.
The DYNAMIC campaign, however, is where it's at. It has pacing, a tech tree where you can unlock new units and select what YOU want to bring, not have the game decide for you, and is a lot more casual due to the simple objectives of "take this area or hold it". No timers, no escort missions, no having do do some gimmick. Just pure tactical gameplay.
Did you even try it before trying the main campaign?
your life expectancy is like 1.5s... use crawl, cover, scout ahead...
it doesn't take so much micro-management, but you have to think a little about
how you do approach things.
First is cover, lay low, second is scouting, most of the weapons can fire farther than the operator can see by himself...
An army have many tools to use and no weapon/unit can do everything on their own.
. So you need to use the right unit for the right job.
Do recon.. send one man forward and hide him in a bush and till him to only return fire. Example use your officer he have binoculars so he can spot the area you want to assault and reveal what is far away.
next get your mortar/artillery to attack and kill most of the defending people.
Then send the tanks forward and they will gun down defending infantry with their big guns and machine guns. And when its kind of safe send in your infantry there is no reason to risk them getting killed when you can kill the enemy in other ways first.
When defending.
then again tanks or armored vehicles are great at killing infantry.
And mortars are really good and can hit the enemy if they hide behind something.
In general artillery is just really great and safe way to killing infantry with little risk.
VERY IMPORTANT..: at some point in the game the enemy have long range artillery.
This is your primary objective to kill it as fast as possible.
So try to look at the mini map and you can see from where it shoot ( when it shoot )
So use a fast armored car to drive there and kill the enemy
Alternative you can use your own long range ( or captured artillery ) and target ground where you think the enemys artillery is and kill it that way.
tip, its important its destroyed since the enemy can repair and man the gun again.
If you have 2 long range artillery guns your self then that will be ideal, and 1 truck for each gun with ammo. Everytime you want to assault something bombard the objective first before you go in.. ;-) its awesome.
You do not need the biggest artillery, long range is more important in my oppinion.
NOTE some artillery ammunitions can shoot further than others.. so if your gun cannot shoot so far then check the ammo used.
Regarding tanks and vehicles. do not just send them forward not knowing what is ahead. send out one infantry man and see if you can spot the enemys AT guns or tanks first so you know where they are and what they can see.. maybe its better to attack from another direction.. Or maybe you can use artillery to take out that AT gun.
It is just sad to send tanks forward and then they get shot by something you did not know is hiding somewhere.
When using tanks and vehicles think about where you possition them and from what direction they can be shot from.
most players attack the enemy head on and in some cases that is okay.
But the smart player will try and possition his tanks so they can hit the side of the enemy tank.. example park your tank next to a hill or building so it only can shoot at the enemys tank when he drive by out in the in the side. The same goes with your AT guns, shoot the enemy in the side if you can.
anti tank mines are great.
In start of a defending battle use the first 5-7 minutes to lay landmines on roads where you think the enemy will drive via to attack you.
You can get some easy tank kills this way.
pro tip.. its a good idea to buy a light plane that can bomb.
I primary use it to bomb the enemys artillery that i cannot reach, and i do this as fast as possible, or AT guns.
make your infantry lay down on their stomac.. it make them a smaller target.
Also spread your your infantry squad.. hold in the mouse button and drag the mouse in x direction and you spread out.. You can also with the mouse hold it over a defensive location and then roll the mouse and your infantry will spread out and auto hide and spread out.
Use the terrain for your advantage.
if youa re defending you dont have to park your tank on the top of a hill to see everything, then everyone can also see you.
Instead maybe move your tanks inbetween two hills or park it in a hole where only the turret is exposed and remember to have some infantry guard your tank, its just sad to see enemy soldiers crawling up to your tank and setting it on fire.
Use the armored cars.. yes they maybe look boring vs a tank but they are cheap and some of them also have some really nice heavy guns ( auto cannons )
They are excellent for defence against infantry.
If you do send your infantry forward then make sure that they always have support/help by other units such as you have artillery or mortars that can help shoot at the enemy when youu find them. And also have a tank or two with you that drive a little behind so it fast can come and help.
