Conquest now unplayable
Not even enjoyable now.
Very early on, you have little to play with, and cannot cope with all the AT guns and tracked vehicles coming at you.

I haven't voice an opinion on the "Is it too hard question" because it's the wrong question to be asking.

The real question isn't about difficulty it's about "who do we want to challenge with this game mode at difficulty setting X". Yeah that who is key here.

I recall a very good article by the guy who wrote Minecraft on the Mojang website explaining why Minecraft is (was?) so "easy".

Basically his opinion was no matter how hard he made the game sooner or later any player would "plateau out" and the game would become too easy for that particular player. They then stop playing Minecraft and find something else to "master". By making the game harder you only made that player stay longer but sooner or later they were going to hit that "plateau" and leave.

Therefore he made the game "easy" so that new players got to enjoy the game and just didn't decide the game was too hard and give up.

You need new players to "grow" the game.

You see if the new players give up very fast and the old hands move on to other games then your game losses more players than it gains and your game "dies".

Seeing he sold Minecraft to Microsoft for like lots of money it seems he might have been on the money with his theory :)

At least that's how I recall it but I can't find any trace of his Blog on the internet anymore.

That said Gates of Hell isn't Minecraft.
BWS seems to want GoH to be authentic, realistic and follow history whereas Minecraft had no such reality based limits.

Personally I've now played numerous Conquest games on on hardcore with Fog On.
I haven't used any tanks (unless I capture them) and I haven't used any officers.

Those units tend to make it too easy for me personally.
I moved outside my comfort zone and excluded them from my chosen research path. Note this was a personal choice I made.

The game is playable even with no officers or tanks. It will certainly beat you if you make a "mistake" but this is good because this is hardcore. Mistakes mean certain death.

But no matter how well I personally play or plan or plot my research path I've found luck is also a large part of success and failure.

"No plan survives contact with the enemy".
A single "lucky" shot by the AI from one of those long range guns can destroy an important unit. I can usually still win but the cost of replacing that destroyed unit and the others units I lost "filling the gap" can be unsustainable.

You can't research everything you'd like. You get the "loot lottery" what you capture from the enemy is sometimes just what you get. I t may not be what you want or need.

Capturing a bunch of "field guns" but having no vehicle to tow them around the map means the capture points on that first defence map need to be close or your guns are nowhere near where they need to be when the enemy arrives. Guns that aren't shooting are of no use and since the enemy army is tied to the size of the army you brought to the party (even if your units are still travelling to the party) you've just made it harder for those troops who are on the flags to hold them.

As a veteran player of the game I can make it as challenging or as easy as I like by changing my army and my research path.

New players however may not make an "optimised" army not by choice but just because they are new.

So how do you handle that?

Probably the best advice I can provide is "phone a friend".
Conquest can be played co-op so if you are struggling open your game up and see if you can get a more experienced player to give you some help in game.

The next best advice is watch out for the AI: Defender units.
The infantry on the capture flags are "elite". Tier 3, 4 or 5 infantry. Your tier 2 infantry units are no match for these troops so don't get into a knife fight on the flags. You need to stand off at long range and pound them into dust. Then once they are all dead, cap the flag. (The AT infantry and rifle grenadiers are tier 2)

If you've researched "the wrong things" then all you can do is start a new game. You can't refund research points.

BWS has a video on YouTube about special units including "the officer" sadly they don't mention the word "binoculars" when talking about him.
You need to equip the binoculars like you would a weapon. Then you can use the F6 key to watch a spot on the map up to 200m away.
Point the binoculars at trees and other tall objects for "UAV" vision of units you have no direct LOS to.
Personally I use Quick Direct Control for looking around but that has no key bind by default. You'll have to set one under options -> controls. It's about the third one from the top.

Sorry, but you can't get a radio operator in Conquest.
But dropping a flare onto those elite troops at he flag would be fun to watch.

Tbf they are cheating, ai turns of fog when they feel like it. That being said don't you love how enemy easy bots are more cracked than your ai veteran bots now? lmfao.

I do use tanks though because they are my favourite part of the game. That being said there is one exception - in my last conquests I didnt allow myself to research the Jagdpanzer38 because it is easily the most overpowered unit to have as Germany for its price (very low shilouette and hard to hit from the front, gun can compete with late war tanks, its fast, it has a machine gunner that is covered by the armor of the tank, low price, and despite the fact that its a glasscanon from the side its front will usually bounce off most shells...)
I am a weak player but before that I played at easy, medium and difficult levels, it was possible to play somehow. And now I am not able to win 1 battle in the Conquest

We are making adjustments and balance based on feedback.
please don't nerf it for hard and heroic
I enjoy it as it is Right Now, thank you. Maybe a boost to initial starting resources would alleviate the problem for those who feel the current wave system is insurmountable., because right now, the AI is aggressive, attack in meaningful waves and ways... Best its been so far.

Are you seeking community input or is this input all from BWS and affiliated parties?

yah i tried it a couple diff ways and it always turned out the same. I thought i wasn't playing it right or something. Played the missions beat most so i uninstall till Western Front DLC comes out sometime. If they fix Conquest, i will come back because i really love this game.:HappyMask:
difficulty is nothing special in GOH, it its actually perfect now. For instance Men of War Assault Squad 2 is waaaaay more difficult on hardcore than GOH is on hardcore, so I hope the developers dont make GOH any easier
